CNN couldn't stop Donald Trump. Neither could Fox News.
Some of the nation's most influential conservatives, from Glenn Beck to Bill Kristol, were powerless. Karl Rove and the Bush family had no effect. Scandal after scandal failed to put a chink in his armor.
And the 16 other GOP contenders, comprising some of the party's brightest and budding stars, proved to be impotent.
But some observers say that one man may have had the power to prevent Donald Trump's accession within the Republican Party: Matt Drudge.
"If Drudge had come out really negatively against Trump and had supported someone who would have played well with his reader base like Cruz, it would have been much harder for Trump to win," BuzzFeed political reporter and editor Andrew Kaczynski told Business Insider, referring to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.
The news mogul, one of the most mysterious individuals in the media industry, operates entirely outside the New York City and Washington, D.C., apparatus. He is seemingly accountable to no one. He is rarely spotted in public and holds close company with only a few select people. Reporters tip him off to stories through email or instant messages but never expect a reply, knowing he is unlikely to write back.

Boehner or Ryan could have shown leadership in the 2015 Congress. If they’d come through with a conservative agenda or conservative budget Trump would not have had a huge pool of anger at Rs to build his campaign on.
Once the 2015 congress completely caved there was little chance of anyone other than Trump beating Hillary. Maybe someone else could have been the nominee if things had gone different (i.e. Drudge did something) But there wouldn’t be excitement to beat Hillary just to have an R like Boehner or Ryan (or McConnell or ...) just to say there’s an R in the white house if that R was going to bow down to Ds every change he/she has.
If he couldn’t beat Drudge how was he going to beat ABDNCBS??

It fascinates me when people talk about Drudge, who he supports, his bias, etc.
As far as I know, he no longer has a radio show, and his only ‘input’ to politics is the headlines. Just a collection of one liners, on a very basic web page.
Any publication that regards Beck and Kristol as conservatives is no longer a legitimate publication.

Huh?!? Why are they mythologizing Drudge? The guy had a weekend TV and radio show for several years. He had stylized himself as a modern Walter Winchell.

The author gives Drudge too much credit. People saw Trump and Cruz and made up their own minds. I liked them both for a while.

Trump has actually been free of scandals. It’s the state run media that looks at every little Republican toothpick while ignoring the huge logs in the eye of the Democrat party.
This constant ambush is so childish. Over the course of the primary, I decided I was not for Trump but he destroyed the field. This was not a close primary. 2008 was close for the democrats and they quickly moved on to focus on victory. Our party dolts don’t want victory. They want theirs.
At first I thought it amusing but then I started getting nasty emails from them after they found out I was voting for Trump and not Cruz. They are on a rampage to destroy Trump and his supporters and sing the praises of the guy that lost.
It has gotten so bad, that if I didn't live over 2,000 miles away from these two gals, I would fear for my well being. They are both in a rage that Cruz didn't win and why everybody else doesn't agree with them. Sad, because they used to be friends.
If Ronald Reagan was alive he would have trounced Trump!

Since Drudge writes headlines and provides links to content written by others, his site just reflects reality, it doesn’t create it.
They’d like Drudge to start spinning and slanting like the MSM does.
