BALTIMORE (AP) — The Latest on a barricade situation in Baltimore (all times local):

2 p.m.

Baltimore Police say a 7-year-old is among those being held hostage at a Burger King restaurant.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith said in a news conference Sunday that “about four” people are in the restaurant with an armed suspect who fled from police.

Smith said the suspect is wanted on a rape charge and led police on a vehicle chase earlier Sunday before crashing into another vehicle and then fleeing by foot into the Burger King in Southwest Baltimore. Smith said the driver of the other car is being treated for minor injuries.

SWAT team and negotiators are at the scene and police are asking the public to avoid the area.

My daughter went to school in North Carolina. For some reason she was supposed to come home by bus with a stop in Baltimore. Visiting a friend or something. I told her to fly, or I'd meet her bus in Baltimore. I used to go to Washington from New York by train or car pretty often. Baltimore always gave me bad feeling. I've already taken a visit to Camden Yards off my bucket list.

Baltimore police surrounded a Burger King near Carroll Park in Southwest Baltimore Sunday morning where a man barricaded himself with four hostages. Police blocked off nearby streets and asked residents and motorists to avoid the area.

Baltimore police responded to a possible barricade situation at Washington and Monroe in Southwest Baltimore.

That’s horrible. Washington Avenue is a major shopping area and — relatively speaking — a safer area than a neighborhood corner. There are huge office complexes and health centers near there. Awful.
