I've never been swayed to vote for or against a candidate based on the VP pick, and I doubt anyone else is either. Nevertheless, I'm still happy that Trump didn't pick an outright dud like the liberal Christie or empty suit Rubio.
What picking Pence, a conservative who still "gets along" with the GOP establishment accomplishes is stopping the RNC political machine from undermining Trump and covertly backing Hillary (hopefully).

One of the main reasons I could bring myself to vote for McCain was his VP pick.
When McCain picked Palin, I have to admit it made it easier for me to vote for him.
