I was not thrilled by the Pence pick, but I do believe Trump has to first win this thing, and if Manafort thinks Pence can help Trump string together a few more toss up states in the rust belt and with labor, to win this thing then I have to be all for it.

Throw in that the conservatives and the globalist RINOs are appeased.

I don’t think it is about governance. Pence is unlikely to replicate Trump in strength. Trump needs to look elsewhere for a successor with his strength and masculine instincts to hope to carry his agenda on.

He’s the only GOP officeholder in the midwest who’s not totally deluded about priorities.

Portman gay-pander, Branstad feuding with Cruz/King, Hedge fund Pete Ricketts, Sen. Hoeven, Sen. Thune(okay choice), Rauner, Brownback, Blunt(Former House leadership), ...

He could run with Steve King but King doesn’t want the job. King of corn is probably more pro-TPP than Pence.

“A former colleague of Pence’s, Iowa Rep. Steve King told ABC News, “I once said to Mike, ‘Mike Pence, I would support you for every position for which you endeavor all the way up to but not including pope.” “

Donald Jr seems identical to him. Eric & Ivanka can’t be trusted- blonde bimbo logic on borders.

Trump needs establishment votes to win.

No he doesn't - Trump needs independents and Reagan Democrats votes to win. Establishment votes are small potatoes comparatively.

Give me a break. It’s time to come together now and win, not slime anyone that didn’t back Trump in the primaries.

Pence is a conservative and solid choice.

Watched the full Pence on Hannity interview. Some thoughts. Some moderates are upset, at least some over on Trump Reddit because of him on social issues. That's not a problem for me. That's the one area where I like Pence, although his reversal on the religious freedom bill is a disappointment as is his rape/incest exception. I know Trump has that position, but I just thought a pro-life stalwart like Pence who truly knows the issue would realize the humanity of the child and the child's right to life even in the horrible circumstance. That said, Trump is on the top of the ticket anyway, and it will be his policy that goes. There are moderates who came into the party to vote for Trump who think they have taken the party over and can turn the party into Dem lite on social issues. No, they can't do that. If they want to come into the party that's fine, but the party shouldn't have to change its core tenets. You know that the Democrats would never adopt social conservative issues for Independents. There is one woman who is a co-chair for Trump who claims she is not supporting Trump now because, well here are her reasons: I was @realdonaldtrump supporter since day 1, can't support Pence's policies. I stepped down as Trump's Veterans Coalition CoChair CD31 TX https://twitter.com/MarieLeff Marie ‏@MarieLeff 58m58 minutes ago @KLM_blessed TPP NAFTA Iraq Amnesty Anti-gay/discrimination Medicaid Expansion ...just to name a few.... Not surprisingly, she's getting some praise...from Democrats. A read of her feed shows her big thing seems to be the gay issue, so she's another independent who wants to turn the Republican Party Dem lite in that area. My issues with him were addressed on Hannity. The good and bad. Iraq - Trump has attacked Hillary for voting to go into Iraq. He has lost that attack line. Not only did Pence vote to go in, he doesn't regret his decision. Now he and Trump can find common ground on the fact that we left too soon, but that will hurt something Trump can attack Hillary on. Immigration - Pence did come out in support of the wall, even saying Mexico is going to pay for it. He says he is opposed to amnesty. My concern is still there regarding touch back amnesty. I remain skeptical after reading this, but we'll see: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/07/15/pence-s-love-affair-with-immigration-reform.html Trade - It was touched on briefly. He said he supports Trump making good trade deals, but unless I missed it (I might have), did he say whether or not he still supports NAFTA, TPP, etc.? I didn't hear him say he didn't. Muslim Ban - He indicated, as Trump indicated in his speech that he wanted to restrict or stop immigration from countries with high instance of terrorism. Pence said he supports that. That's good. I am still conflicted on him, not that it matters at this point. What is done is done. I just want someone who is going to support Trump and his policies. We don't need someone like Ryan who claims he supports Trump and then turns right away and sticks in the knife. For the record, I did see one Never Trump Republican switch his support to Trump, so there's that.

>>Conservatives who say Pence is a nice “balance” are in fact hiking Trump’s risk of assassination. Trump should have picked an equivalent alpha male hothead for VP as insurance to protect himself — not Pence. Or an extremist, like Rand Paul....

Anyone who would shoot the President does not care about the successor. Trump’s message is the lightning rod for every kind of crazy Progressive and their allies. Someone will try to take a shot at him because his message of America First threatens too many people who exist on America’s generosity and fear of winning. They won’t care who’s in the warm-up box.

“His pro-TPP trade policy does not bode well.”

It does if Trump wins.
>

It does...IF he has Trump’s ear on the matter.

I’ve heard nothing from Trump to suggest that is true. IMO, Pence and the like would be shouting at the wind here.

I heard he asked for the name of a restaurant in Cinatown that doesn't use MSG.

Maybe Trump turn around has to do with new political hack running his campaign. Or maybe his internal polling numbers are showing he really needs to reign in traditional republican voters. I know too many that are going Gary Johnson. They are fools, but they are voting Johnson.

According to Paul Ryan he is:

“Mike Pence comes from the heart of the conservative movement — and the heart of America. I can think of no better choice for our vice-presidential candidate. We need someone who is steady and secure in his principles, someone who can cut through the noise and make a compelling case for conservatism,” Ryan said in a statement.

“Mike Pence is that man. Mike and I have been friends for many years, and he has put his principles into practice by passing the largest state tax cut in the history of Indiana and expanding school choice for Hoosier families. He will help bring real change to Washington, and so I will do everything I can between now and November to help our ticket and our party win a national majority.”
