If we were to “normalize” the statistics by accounting for the demographics of the population, our statistics are very much comparable with those of Europe.

I imagine our demographics are substantially different too than they were back then. We have a populace that’s probably substantially more prone to crime and violence I would imagine.

If America didn’t have guns we’d still be under British rule.

If the US bans handguns and disarm the police, the politicians, judges, and other members of the elites would still be protected by armed guards and still live in gated compounds. It will be average citizens, and the unarmed police, who die during what will be called the “transition period”. Of course the media will do its job by failing to report the slaughter.

Some facts that were accidentally omitted from the article as known by somebody who lived and worked in London for six years:

  1. The cops there aren't as unarmed as they let on. About 25-30 percent of them are packing at any point in time. They have vastly more firepower than the public and can summon help in an instant.

  2. The police are present in far greater numbers than in the U.S. In Dallas, we have about 600 officers. In London, they have more than 30,000. London is larger, but not 50 times.

  3. They pay their cops much better -- more than a medical doctor. In many cases, that gives them a better quality cop and a lower quality doctor than what you'll find here.

  4. They try criminals before a panel of three specially trained individuals who serve as judge and jury. The jury is reserved for only the most serious offenses. You can ask for a jury trial with lesser offenses, but this is seldom done because the loser pays the cost for both sides, most individuals brought to trial with fairly conclusive evidence, and both prosecution and defense are trying to get at the truth rather than advocate for a given outcome.

  5. The police do indeed lie to the people they interrogate, as I have been told repeatedly by many Brits.

Purely from a point of visiting a foreign culture & having a go at the native lingo, I enjoyed the article lots more than anticipated.

Worth the read. I hope you take the time.

Great bits of perspective (& what I’ll kindly call ‘updated info’) in posts further down, esp. #8.

Both Britain and Australia are islands, where ingress into the country is a wee bit more difficult than into the USA. They also do not have a contiguous country which feeds illegal weaponry and drugs directly into them.

If the U.S. no longer have guns, we’d have the same problems with “Muslimes” they have in the UK. Note the UK has been overrun with them. So far, we have not but we are getting much closer.

Note to British “Bobby”, Thanks for the info but I’ll keep my guns.

Drummer Rigby was available to comment on the “no guns just chattem’ up and they’ll change their ways” community policing.

Drummer Lee Rigby was hacked to death like he was a “joint of meat”, the Old Bailey was told on Friday.

The 25-year-old was virtually decapitated by two Islamists in broad daylight on May 22, the court heard.

Witnesses described a “horrific and frenzied attack” as he was mown down by a car from behind before being attacked with a meat cleaver and knives.

The court was told how passers-by could not believe what they were seeing as Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, dragged Drummer Rigby’s body into the middle of the road in Woolwich, south-east London.

There were gasps in Court Number 2 as CCTV footage was shown for the first time of how a Vauxhall Tigra, allegedly driven by Adebolajo, of Lewisham, south-east London, veered across the road and hit the soldier at 30 to 40mph.

He was knocked on to the bonnet and rolled on the ground. The pair then attacked his motionless, unconscious body. Adebolajo allegedly took hold of his hair and “repeatedly hacked” at his neck. He almost succeeded in decapitating him.

The two Islamists claimed that they were acting in revenge for the actions of David Cameron and his Government against Muslims.

Witnesses said they tried to keep a group of primary schoolchildren away from the “awful scene”. Other “brave” women confronted the attackers or tried to offer “comfort and humanity” to Drummer Rigby.

At the start of the murder trial, the jury was also shown footage of Adebolajo, clutching a cleaver and with blood on his hands. A bystander filmed him as he claimed that it was an “eye for an eye”.

Opening the case, Richard Whittam QC, prosecuting, gave details of witness statements.

Members of Drummer Rigby’s family, including his mother Lyn and wife Rebecca, left the court visibly upset as the footage was shown to the jury.

The soldier, a father of one, was a member of the Corps of Drums with the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. He was returning to Woolwich Barracks, when he was attacked.

The defendants had been parked nearby waiting for a victim.

Mr Whittam said they were intent on killing a soldier. Adebolajo had even bought a parking ticket as they waited nearby before driving at speed as Drummer Rigby crossed Artillery Place.

The attack

CCTV footage showed the Tigra veer across the road and drive straight at the soldier, knocking him in to the air.

Mr Whittam said what followed was “shocking to those who observed it”. Amanda Bailey saw Drummer Rigby fly “off the bonnet and land about two feet in front”. The car did not brake and crashed into a road sign.

Mr Whittam said Ms Bailey saw his eyes were open “but they looked frozen”. He said: “He wasn’t moving or making any noise.”

Ms Bailey tried to call 999 but “in her angst” she mistakenly dialled 9999 as she saw the driver get out of the car, holding a cleaver.

“He knelt down by Lee Rigby and took hold of his hair,” Mr Whittam said. “He then repeatedly hacked at the right side of his neck just below the jawline.”

The court heard how Ms Bailey stopped a group of children returning to Mulgrave Primary School after a library trip.

Thomas Seymour, an electrician for Greenwich borough council, claimed that he thought he was trying “to cut the victim’s head off’”.

Another witness Gary Perkins, described the defendant’s actions as being “like a butcher attacking a joint of meat”. He was travelling with a colleague, Gill Hucks, who said it was a “horrific, frenzied attack”.

The aftermath

The jury saw footage of the men dragging Drummer Rigby’s body into the road before parading around, armed with the knives and a gun.

Mr Whittam said: “They wanted members of the public to see the consequence of what can only be described as their barbarous acts.”

This was contrasted to the “bravery and decency” shown by some women who were passing by, including Amanda Donnelly Martin, who was with her daughter Gemini.

She went to the body and stroked Drummer Rigby’s head while Vikki Cave, a trained first aider, confronted Adebolajo after realising that there was nothing she could do to help the victim.

Jurors were shown a video clip of Adebolajo speaking with blood on his hands.

He said: “The only reason we’ve killed this man today is because Muslims are dying daily by British soldiers.

“This British soldier is one — he is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

“Do you think David Cameron is going to get caught in the street, when we start busting our guns? Do you think your politicians are going to die? No, it’s going to be the average guy, like you and your children.”

The note

Adebolajo also handed Mrs Donnelly Martin a handwritten note addressed to his “beloved children”.

He had written: “Do not spend your days in endless dispute with the cowardly and foolish if it means that it will delay you meeting Allah’s enemies on the battlefield.

“If I live beyond this day and you find me talking other than this, then know that perhaps Allah has left me to stray.

“If you find yourself curious as to why carnage is reaching your [underlined] own towns then know it is simply retaliation for your oppression in our towns.

“When the heat of battle reaches your local street it’s unlikely that any of your so called politicians will be at risk or caught in the cross fire so I suggest you remove them.”

The Arrest

Three armed officers were the first police to arrive, CCTV footage showed. Adebolajo raised his cleaver above his head, while Adebowale, of Greenwich, south-east London, ran at the car.

The officers — two men and a woman — were seen running from their car before each defendant was shot. Mr Whittam said the female police officer – referred to as D49 – braked “harshly” as she approached the scene. The officer — known as E48 — fired out of the window and hit Adebolajo, the court heard.

As the vehicle stopped, the other officer, referred to as E42, left the car and saw Adebowale pointing a gun. He shot him.

‘No justification’

Mr Whittam told the jury that to “seek out and to kill political opponents on the grounds that you say that they have oppressed your countrymen or people of your religion is still murder”.

He said: “Killing to make a political point, or to frighten the public to put pressure on the Government, or as an expression of anger, is murder.

“Equally there is no defence of moral justification for killing just as there is no defence of religious justification. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth suggests revenge or retaliation, and in the context of this case, murder.”

He said earlier: “They had committed, you may think, a cowardly and callous murder by deliberately attacking an unarmed man in plain clothes and then they murdered him.”

Adebolajo, who clutched a copy of the Koran while in the dock, and Adebowale deny murdering Mr Rigby, attempting to murder and conspiracy to murder a police officer. The case continues.

I’ve got to be honest: the numbers flying around about how many people are killed by guns, how many people are killed by police, are either cooked, twisted or accurate; but one thing remains the same. They are always different depending on who is doing the talking or writing.

Self-reliance in defense of life and property is an American ethos. We are citizens of our country.

Depriving oneself of the most effective means of self-defense in deference to the government makes one a subject.

The difference was clearly laid out quite some time ago.
