Officer who shot Castile attended 'Bulletproof Warrior' training

The seminar was called “The Bulletproof Warrior,” and the instructors urged the law enforcement officers in the hotel conference room to make the decision to shoot if they ever feel their lives are threatened.

Videos of bloody shootouts between police and civilians emphasized a key point: Hesitation can kill you.

In the audience at the May 2014 seminar was a young St. Anthony police officer, Jeronimo Yanez, city records show. He’s now known around the world as the officer who killed Philando Castile minutes after making a traffic stop in Falcon Heights last week.

Amid intensifying demands for changes in police training in the wake of the shooting deaths of Castile and others, such “survival” courses for officers are flourishing nationally. But some in law enforcement are distancing themselves from the approach.

My beef is the perp was allowed to lay there and bleed out.

Sadly, that seems to have become SOP.

You'd get faster help getting shot on a battlefield than if you got shot by a cop. There are some things that CAN be cleaned up, and that's one of them. The other is emptying magazines into the perp. Enough is enough.

The lack of chivalry shows clearly there, if nowhere else. Why isn’t there training on how to get organized for this?

Chivalry would help.

Look out for Number One has done just what you would expect it to. Break the everlasting covenant.

Sounds like the training may have helped save this officers life.

Would you prefer that it was the other way around?

I head it was actually a request to purchase form, not a CCP. I didn’t see the actual forms, but this is what I had read somewhere. I’ll look for the article and ping you when I find it.

What do you know?

The Media can't give us so much of the info that would make things clear, because they are investigating the Cop!

My feeling is the lousy state GOV and the Media are hiding damning things until the fable is ingrained in the culture.

Facts don't matter.

I am a big fan of ongoing training. I do it. You should do it and cops need to do it.

The "liberals" want to dis-arm the police 1st, then the taxpayers/subjects.

It's not too much more complicated than that.

What difference does it make if he had a permit?

I have one, but long before I got it I was taught not to create misunderstandings with the police.

As Heinlein wrote, in nature the penalty for stupidity is death; the sentence is executed immediately, and there is no appeal.

“He had a gun permit.”

So that’s why he was shot? ...Because he had a permit?

There are some on Free Republic that find fault in law enforcement with no basis in fact. How many times do we have to go through this routine?

I know there are people on Free Republic that do not trust law enforcement or any Government Enforcement Authority.

I get it......But for Christ sakes, nearly every time this sh-t happens, it turns out, the perp had it coming....Sometimes the cop hating Freepers look as stupid as the BLM losers.

Aside from having a “Wide Nose,” what did Philando do to deserve to be pulled over?

Startribune is a horrific liberal rag.

The paper has been distributing "free" copies for a few weeks now. No one at this address asked to have them leave their leavings on my doorstep.

Can attack them from the Left, chopping down trees for paper, burning gas for trucks, carrying advertisements for private sector businesses.

The sickening hypocrisy of modern Leftism is on full display, where everything is the fault of white people.

He resembled a suspect in an armed robbery. Should the cop have just ignored that?

The courts have ruled that permits, if any, are conditional varying by State law.

It's incumbent upon the permit holder to keep track of their status to remain legit and at least pretend to be responsible.

The requirements aren't onerous or expensive.

The city is going to have a problem at the civil trial because the officer, before pulling him over, told the dispatcher, “He has a wide nose.”

The dispatcher should have said, “Hey wait minute, you are going to pull this guy over because he had a wide nose?”

The plantiff’s attorney is going to bring in experts on the history of craniology, and bring in experts on cross-race effect.

The city will lose at civil trial.

That was one of the first things I learned when driving - interior lights on, engine off, flashers on, hands on the top of the wheel and fingers out. Window is down and my wallet is on the dash. I can’t recall if it was my old man or who.

Just the other week I got pulled over while driving a rental car. With my hands on the wheel I apologized to the cop that I didn’t know how to turn on the interior lights - it was a rental. Turns out the tabs had expired - got a warning). Asked him to shine his light to the glove box so I could get to the papers.

The very next day after picking up our car from repairs, got pulled over on the same block! One of my license bulbs was out! (Small town...)

But yeah - it just seems like common-sense. Both times they asked if I had any warrants out and then ran my driver’s license. Then gave me a warning. (I still feel like I’m 18 years old whenever I get pulled over!)

I’m in a state where they don’t require that you disclose that you are armed. BUT - I have read that if you do decide to tell them, you don’t say “I have a gun.” A better way would be to say “Here’s my concealed carry permit too officer if you would care to see that.”

Dollars to donuts, this was a good shoot,. His girlfriend is a liar and drunk.

This loser knew he was busted for the armed robbery and panicked.
