Republican National Committee members huddling in Cleveland on Wednesday sought to tamp down speculation about a convention floor rebellion that is being spearheaded by a group of Never Trump Republicans.
When the GOP Rules Committee convenes on Thursday, Never Trump delegates will look to pass a conscience clause that would unbind them from the results of state primaries and caucuses and free them to vote for whomever they choose.
There is intense speculation about whether Unruh will garner the required number of signatures. Some Republican National Committee (RNC) members said they believe shell get there. Others believe shell fall short.
But even if Unruh achieves a floor vote, most GOP leaders believe the rebellion wont be anything more than a short-lived distraction and that there is little to no chance anyone other than Donald Trump will emerge as the presidential nominee.
I respect [Unruhs] efforts and have had polite conversations with her, but I dont see it, said Steve Duprey, an RNC member from New Hampshire. Its going down by massive numbers. ... I just dont see a majority of Republican delegates willing to overturn what the voters did in their states. Thats not how we roll.

The convention better not overturn the will of the voters.
They finally are coming to grips with the fact that they will literally watch the party dissolve if anything screws up Trump’s nomination.
I really really despise these people. And Cruz could fix MUCH of this by making a very public statement condemning this garbage.
Even if they could change the rules it’s not going to change the outcome of the convention.
Actually I think Cruz is behind this or at least condones it.
Note that he did not endorse Trump, despite the pledge he and all the other R candidates took to support the winner.
It is despicable.
Spank her and be done with it. She probably would like it.
Never really a doubt.
Sadly I think you are right. The “secret” meeting with the conservatives in Cleveland smells.
Aren’t a majority of these people mormons? Is Romney that influential with getting mormons to hate Trump?
Why are the LDS seemingly so against Trump?
Personally, I would drop the rino replacement and vote third party Trump. Sick of the communists and rinos in DC screwing Christians and free speech Conservatives who voted for Trump. Seems everyone wants to change the goalposts nowdays to win.
The LDS, (aka, Mormans) is not Christian but a cult as so many creeds and denominations who have left the Word of God as the Way, the Truth, and the Life now are.
I blame Cruz for not endorsing Trump. By his silence, he is encouraging this nonsense.
The ironic thing is that if they pass a rule to unbind delegates (they won’t), it would likely result in Trump winning more delegates on the first ballot. Right now he has around 1440, or 58%.
Most delegates will want to curry favor with him and more will just want to present a unified front going into the general election.
Both McCain and Romney ended up with 1575 delegates, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump is working to get at least 1576 to vote for him. Unbinding the delegates could work in his favor. But it still won’t happen.
Praying for what - who can say? [cough, cough]
I agree. This has Cruz’s slimy finger prints all over it. Trump was crazy to offer that POS a speaker slot at the convention. President Trump needs to work to undermine Sen Cruz’s re-election bid in 2018. Turnabout is fair play.
I blame all never Trump fools for trying to lose the election to Hitlery.
I was thinking the same thing.
Why hasn’t Lyin’ Ted not dis-avowed this nonsense.
Cruz’ 15 minutes of fame is just about up.
After Trump is nominated in the coming week and go on to defeat
Hillary, Cruz will slink back to the senate more deminished than before.
Even his poll numbers in Texas are dropping.
Arent a majority of these people mormons? Is Romney that influential with getting mormons to hate Trump?
Why are the LDS seemingly so against Trump?>>> it’s not like he’s been monogamous. They should welcome him/s.
If people can’t see by now that the GOP wants Hillary for President, they don’t want to.
