President Barack Obama and his first attorney general, Eric Holder, called for an honest conversation about race. Holder even called us "a nation of cowards" because we were unwilling to have a "national conversation" about race. The truth of the matter is there's been more than a half-century of conversations about race. We do not need more. Instead, black people need to have frank conversations among ourselves, no matter how uncomfortable and embarrassing the topics may be.
Among the nation's most dangerous cities are Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, Memphis, Milwaukee, Birmingham, Newark, Cleveland and Philadelphia. These once-thriving cities are in steep decline. What these cities have in common is that they have large black populations. Also, they have been run by Democrats for nearly a half-century, with blacks having significant political power. Other characteristics these cities share are poorly performing and unsafe schools, poor-quality city services, and declining populations.
Each year, more than 7,000 blacks are murdered. That's a number greater than white and Hispanic murder victims combined. Blacks of all ages are killed at six times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined. According to the FBI, the police kill about 400 people a year; blacks are roughly one-third of that number. In Chicago alone, so far this year, over 2,000 people have been shot, leaving over 320 dead. It's a similar tale of mayhem in other predominantly black cities.

As usual Walter is right on the mark
Walter was mislead on this::
“According to the FBI, the police kill about 400 people a year”
The FBI doesn’t gather such statistics on who gets killed by police so whoever told him this was not citing any official figure.
Estimates vary but for 2015 they ranged from 975 to 1186.

ANY discussion of racial enmity, bias, hatred of blacks by whites and presentation of ‘statistics’ first has to remove the statistics of “black on black” murder-death-kill. To convolute these instances in with other statistics of arrests, police shootings, shootings of police, murder of other races is irrelevant when black on black crime is not removed from the equation. My opinion, but there it is.
Thanks, you should send Walter an email and let him know.
Dr. Williams email address is: wwilliam@gmu.edu
Thanks, after a quick check your estimate figures for 2015 is what I found also.
I already sent this to him but thank you for your thoughtfulness!
(-:
Here’s a WaPo article mentioning nearly 400 people killed by police in 2015 but it’s dated May 30, 2015.
From my observations, the prevailing black culture is dysfunctional, self-defeating, and de-motivating in two important areas:
1) A kind of self-loathing/self-hatred/self rejection causes family relationships to be harsh and cruel, especially with their children, but also between husband and wife. The self rejection and harsh treatment growing up may have a lot to do with a lack of motivation.
2) An attitude of self-pity and resentment that someone owes them a living and if something goes wrong, why doesnt somebody fix it for me. Obama encourages this dysfunction because it, like all dysfunction, plays very well into his dysfunctional dictatorial and totalitarian schemes and worldview. A kind of co-dependent relationship.
Both the self-loathing and self pity are mind-sets. The Right seems to avoid all encounter or discussion about the severe problems in black culture confusing confrontation of a deadly problem with racism. But no one is helped by ignoring a cancer. You help by dealing with it. Having a President who has and mollifies those mind sets doesn’t help.
Not all blacks are subject to this culture and many are healthy, thriving people. Weve seen the emergence of examples of black leaders who reflect healthy values and outlook - people like Supreme Court Justice Thomas and surgeon/politician Ben Carson who the Left hates. The Left and things like BLM dont want solutions, they want socialist tyranny and government hand-outs which stop when they run out of everyone elses money.
I believe its also true that no known black (or Arab, BTW) government is free and democratic but dictatorial. Obama’s generational predispositions.
The only public figure Ive heard talk about this political byproduct of race and national origin is Michael Savage. It, again, is a byproduct of a dysfunctional culture.
#BlackBehaviorMatters
We need to get off of talking about race, and instead focus on Culture.
You cannot choose your race, you can choose your culture.
I wonder that same about the angry and hateful among Muslims . What it must be like to grow up seeing your mother, sisters, etc. treated so poorly, and even abused?
No problem. Thanks for catching the error. As you know, any error, no matter how small, will be used by the left as justification for dismissing anything coming from a conservative author.
Two things will bring a turnabout in the black community. One, the gospel of Christ. Two, the renewal of the two-parent nuclear family.
Without both of these, the black community will continue its suicide.
“We need to get off of talking about race, and instead focus on Culture.”
You are exactly correct.
I live in Detroit.
I have never seen but am now inspired to create a cross-cultural comparison chart (maybe I should google it first)
Why would a country on the right allow and invasion of refugees from countries on the left?
Agreed. But like the Islamic thing, you can’t talk about the problem of the culture without talking about the race involved - blacks. But the focus should be on the culture dysfunction and how to help overcome the dysfunction. And the Right needs to quit avoiding such helpful discussion because they are intimidated by the Left who don’t want any solutions.
It runs deep but the best we can do is face the problem, name the problem, and be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We know there are blacks and Arabs who are healthy happy, and whole, so the potential is there.
The Islamic doctrine of the Quran and it’s partner, Sharia Law, however, codifies such dysfunction, so the Muslim thing is a real problem that again, must be confronted and named, not avoided.
