It felt like a watershed moment for a scattered and still-young civil rights movement.
Inside Black Lives Matter, the national revulsion over videos of police officers shooting to death black men in Minnesota and Louisiana was undeniable proof that the groups message of outrage and demands for justice had finally broken through.
Even the white governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, in a pained public concession, embraced the movements central argument. Would this have happened if those passengers the driver and the passengers were white? he asked. I dont think it wouldve.
Then, in an instant, everything changed.
Black Lives Matter now faces perhaps the biggest crisis in its short history: It is both scrambling to distance itself from an African-American sniper in Dallas who set out to murder white police officers and trying to rebut a chorus of detractors who blame the movement for inspiring his deadly attack....

You are one of the best contributors here, Keep it up.
I’ve heard he’s a little crazy and dangerous but I still like him :)
The creation of that nutcase sniper was the direct result of mental deficients' agitating the creation of chaos (and obviously, murder) under the guise of special black thug privilege, and their ridiculous interpretation of "Justice, the Freedom of Speech", Second Amendment "Peaceful Protest" concept.
TOTAL FAIL!
But what can we expect from a savage, primitive subculture pack of animals?
And of course, the Race Pimp Industry enablers' continuing only means of support...
Never get to say what I’d really like to do to the owners and writers of these rags.
It’s freedom of the press. The founding fathers didn’t know that conservatives were gonna be such dumb ####s and not buy ANY big name media outlets!!
The NYT is an enabler of the Black Lies Murder movement, just as they supported The lies of Stalin in the 30s.
We have people who hate cops.
BLM clearly doesn’t care about black on black slaughter.
They haven’t done anything to end it in places like Chicago.
They’re a racist movement, pure and simple.
If you go to the NYT website, at least use an adblocker so you don’t give them any ad revenue.
I read the entire article. Thank you for posting. The NY Times, as is typical, subtly tries to debunk the concept that BLM foments events like the Dallas massacre.
Oh please, their "peaceful" chants directly call for killing cops and white people. They're a "protest movement" like Islam is a 1st Amendment religion - name only.
And exactly like Islam, what they really are is a terrorist organization.
Their rhetoric abetted by the media, resulted in the murder of five cops.
Words kill. Try as they might, distancing themselves from it doesn’t change the fact it inspired a black racist to find whites to murder.
We wouldn’t let the KKK get away with racism - and we didn’t absolve Dylan Roof of his hatred of blacks.
Time to apply the same standard to the black racist leadership of BLM.
Good. I hope it utterly destroys them. Permanently.
What I love about this is that Hillary’s campaign strategists are having a stroke trying to decide how to play this. Trump has no worries - the absurdity of the BLM stuff and now the assassination of the Dallas officers speaks for itself. Hillary can have 100% of the black vote (go ahead and take it!) but the lessons of this, which may evolve further over the course of the summer, will cause her to lose 6x as many non-black voters at the margin. Good luck with that math.
Give me a break.
A madman gunned down cops in cold blood and the media and our government officials all cheer.
Funny, I thought that was what the NYT does every time a mass shooting happens in the country - blame the NRA for the twisted actions of a deranged gunman.
If you want to be consistent, you must apply the same reasoning to BLM that you do for the NRA.
The again the hypocrisy of the NYT is evident for all to see.
BLM is hoist on its petard.
After all, there is the racist conceit black lives matter above other people.
The name of the movement is the message, stupid.
Hillary needs to play the race card to gin up black turnout.
Trump doesn’t have to pander to racist hotheads.
Hopefully, Hillary will continue to be a gaffe machine.
I do not ever attempt to read NYT, ever, due to their reputation.
“Young civil rights movement.” Huh?
Dr. King talked about a country where character mattered more than the color of one’s skin, he talked about equal treatment under the law and brotherhood among all of God’s children.
Words that inspired a nation to sweep aside bigotry, hate and injustice.
BLM is the exact opposite of those civil rights movement ideals.
