Popular myth-busting website Snopes originally gained recognition for being the go-to site for disproving outlandish urban legends -such as the presence of UFOs in Haiti or the existence of human-animal hybrids in the Amazon jungle.
Recently, however, the site has tried to pose as a political fact-checker. But Snopes fact-checking looks more like playing defense for prominent Democrats like Hillary Clinton and its political fact-checker describes herself as a liberal and has called Republicans regressive and afraid of female agency.
Snopes main political fact-checker is a writer named Kim Lacapria. Before writing for Snopes, Lacapria wrote for Inquisitr, a blog that oddly enough is known for publishing fake quotes and even downright hoaxes as much as anything else.
While at Inquisitr, the future fact-checker consistently displayed clear partisanship.
She described herself as openly left-leaning and a liberal. She trashed the Tea Party as teahadists. She called Bill Clinton one of our greatest presidents. She claimed that conservatives only criticized Lena Dunhams comparison of voting to sex because they fear female agency.
She once wrote: Like many GOP ideas about the poor, the panic about using food stamps for alcohol, pornography or guns seems to have been cut from whole clothor more likely, the ideas many have about the fantasy of poverty. (A simple fact-check would show that food stamp fraud does occur and costs taxpayers tens of millions).
Lacapria even accused the Bush administration of being at least guilty of criminal negligience in the September 11 attacks. (The future fact-checker offered no evidence to support her accusation.)
Her columns apparently failed to impress her readership, oftentimes failing to get more than 10-20 shares.

I’m not a Snopes fan. I learned long ago that it’s nothing more than just another MoveOn.org. Liberal BS.
SNOPES is way past tense for my personal use.
Of course Snopes will deny this.

I have not use snopes in years. Liberal trash been reported here at FR many times over the years.
All of the journalistic “fact checker” sites I have seen are pure lefty propaganda pretending to be objective.
You can search for any DemocRat on snopes and any negative article will be refuted. Even when Congressman Hank Johnson said that he was afraid that putting too many people on Guam would cause it to tip over and capsize is explained away by saying that he really meant that he was afraid that too many people would cause the ecosystem to reach a tipping point that would cause irreversible damage to it.
Here is what snopes says: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/guamtip.asp
And here is what Johnson said: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7XXVLKWd3Q
Yesirree, it used to be more legitimate, but now is just a liberal screed—it refuses to address any story that puts the left in a bad light.
I remember that one — Snopes claimed that he was just doing an April Fools’ Day joke. Even though it wasn’t April 1 and the live video shows Johnson is an idiot.
A local leftie letter writer uses Snopes as a source of “undeniable truth” to back up his conservative-bashing. The first time he mentioned Snopes, I knew it was a leftie propaganda tool.
Ditto that. They’ve been outed a long time ago
yep. Snopes.com could have been a true objective reporting source. But it is really really clear it has extreme leftist leanings.
The recent article on the Registered Democrat Asian Muslim terrorist who targeted homosexuals for murder is a great example.
snopes is in the tank for Hitlery.
It is a fact that I have found very left-leaning Snopes articles on controversial topics. But they are pretty good at debunking swamp monsters and the like.
I’ll bet they don’t even believe that the Hellhound and the Chupacabra serve as slaves to the Bigfoot.
“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
Snopes says claims that Snopes is biased are incorrect.
Who do you recommend as a honest broker fact checker?
The only reason I ever go to Snopes is to get in the face of my Lib friends when even Snopes agrees with me.
A lot of you posters didn’t read the article (especially the ones saying “he”): I recommend it. Some of her most egregious lies and biases are shown. Everyone spread this article around.
