The watermelons are fantastic this year. Rice and beans, some fish, burgers, sausages... let’s get the celebration started. But first crack up the Sousa CD and do some plinkin’

A most-favored Pet Peeve. Actual commodity costs are almost PAR: the American taxpayer pays for Unionized wages in transport and distribution Administrative costs, not to mention inflated wages/pensions/benefits.

The food itself is damned-near free.

My premise comes before Opportunity Costs of High Fructose Corn Syrup and Ethanol.

This Republic is barely recognizable.

The subsidies are designed at this point for the control over land they confer to the government. Just like welfare offers a pathway to control over life to the recipients, agriculture subsidies offer control over the use and disposition of land. If you take them you’ve agreed to the terms, however deeply they are buried in code.

The government could give a s*** how much it costs, all that matters is that another voting block is enslaved to the perpetual power machine. 75 + years ago all of this stuff was an easy sell from the angle of altruism but from their very inception there were financial and political interests who knew EXACTLY where these actions would lead.

The endgame is a well managed world of serfs. 50 years hence there will be the occasional eccentric living free on their remote property in America unencumbered by entangling social contracts with the evolved social management system and they’ll probably be left alone to live out their days because the vast majority will think them crazy and their offspring will want to get them some of that shiny sweet dazzle everyone else is participating in.

When they die, the land will either get sold to some wealthy insider or co-opted into wildlands where the other serfs can spend several years of their immensely difficult to accrue savings to be conveyed out to it on public transportation in order to walk around it and listen to the “interpretive lectures” by the government worker on the “bad old days”.

Remember! Take only pictures! Leave only footprints!

The middlemen are the least of it.

It’s the bribery and corruption and the vast goobermint bureaucracy that are the bigger problems.

I’m pretty sure we could stabilize production with far less goobermint intervention.

So when are they going to pass a law, no outside cooking of pork, because it offends some people? OMG! just think what a law like that would cause in Germany if they did it now. (Even what it would do to the Danish and Polish economies.)
