To: Terry L Smith

I am well aware of the point system having been affiliated with the civil service system since about 1956. I also know about quotas and changes in hiring priorities. I also know that once upon a time it was not a job for life and that there were even seasonal employees, temporaries. I guess such still exist but I’m pretty sure not like it once was.

BFI is what my late father called the FBI. It stands for whatever you want it to.

Dear Sequoyah,

When the Census Bureau does its decade counting procedure, even positions as I had held, Office Administrator, were of ‘1 year and 1 day’ existence. In 2000, (which was the first automated Census counting), we were handing in penciled timesheets!!

I was never sure about ‘a job for life’, (paid to be the shadow of a few that superiors had an iron eye upon), but there was a fellow that was a B-25 WW2 pilot, that was still in his position and grade in 1994, and NASA certified, at that.
