Hurrah!!! Liberty call means the weekend is finally here!
Thanks, Connie...exciting plans for the weekend? Family and friends?
This July we have our annual festival of three concerts per week for four weeks with some of the best musicians in the game. The concerts are broadcast live over KING-FM in Seattle, which has a national following thanks to the miracle of the Internet. If youre listening for me, Ill be sitting in the last row in the back because thats where the acoustics are best.
This July 25 performance features Andrew Wan on violin, Julie Albers on cello and Anna Polonsky on piano. Anna is married to pianist Orion Weiss, who will appear later this week.
This trio dates form 1797 and is a more serious work than the early trios. Note that the cello merely imitates the piano bass line. It wasnt until Beethoven that the cello got to speak on its own in this kind of work.
It starts with a poco allegretto movement in sonata format, so as a student at the Publius School of Classical Music, you know by now what to listen for.
The slow movement in C Major is marked andante e innocentemente, which means walking innocently.
With little warning, the finale erupts presto assai in a burst of good humor.
