With Donald Trump’s rhetoric about Mexican rapists and border walls obviously on their minds, President Obama and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto made a public show of friendship and respect Wednesday.
“All too often we’re hearing rhetoric that ignores the enormous contributions that have been made by Mexican Americans and the enormous strengths we draw from the relationship,” Mr. Obama said during a meeting with Mr. Pena Nieto at a summit in Ottawa, Canada.
Mr. Obama said the U.S. “is not just a friend and neighbor of Mexico, but the very character of the United States is shaped by Mexican Americans who have shared our culture, our politics, our business.”
In an apparent reference to Mr. Trump’s pledge to force Mexico to pay for building a wall on the U.S. border, Mr. Pena Nieto said, “Isolationism cannot bring prosperity to a society.”

No, we are worse off in all respects. We do not need Mexicans. Heck 10% to 25% of Mexicans are in the US! Send the home, liberate America. Let them go home, speak their Mexican Spanish, and fix their own country not destroy ours. We are a developed country and anywhere there are lots of mexicans, we end up with a 3rd world cesspool. If Obama, like Bush, like them so much, let him move to Mexico and good riddance to him and all of them.
I haven’t seen any evidence of the enormous contributions they’ve made to the country, has anyone else? I’m sure there might be a few contributions, which would be outweighed by the high levels of crime, and the high cost of welfare and education spent on them.

He’s right. It’s immoral what we’ve done to Mexico, stealing their best and brightest to make our own country stronger. I’m ashamed of it all. That’s why I’m going to write my congressman and demand that we help mexico’s citizens return home. How can we as a country live with ourselves knowing we’ve taken advantage of our good friends to the south for so long? I can only hope that by returning them swiftly we can begin the healing process.
