Hillary Clinton jumped 5 percentage points in a head-to-head matchup with Donald Trump over the weekend, even though voters think Trump would do more to grow the economy if he is elected president, according to a new Morning Consult poll.
Well over two-fifths of registered voters (44 percent) said they would choose the presumptive Democratic nominee if the presidential election were held now, while 39 percent said they would choose Trump. Almost one-fifth of respondents (18 percent) dont know or have no opinion.
Its a 3-point gain for Clinton, who had lost ground in our previous poll following the mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando.
When voters were also given a third choice, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, Clinton was the first choice for 39 percent of respondents, compared with 36 percent for Trump. Johnson pulled in 11 percent of support, a slight uptick from previous weeks, and 13 percent of voters were undecided.

Independents are still all over the map on this, but again, Hillary is in the 43-45 point range, terrible for someone of her "stature". Of course Trump can't break 40 with any consistency so he has work to do.
But these polls are being influenced in how they are phrased and asked. Bonus points to anyone who can identify the two MAJOR issues that Trump has focused on, which were not asked as part of the ballot test issues. You identify this and you will understand what these scoundrels are doing.
Can anyone itemize the things she’s done to propel her sudden surge in popularity?
Hillary is running as the incumbent. She is betting voters crave stability and competence so running for the third Obama term is her ace card.
What if they really want change? That’s where she’s vulnerable.
The big question in all of these polls are the 13% undecided voters. Are they really undecided, or are they leaning towards Trump but will not tell a pollster?
Hillary benefits from the sort of thing Obama had going for him in 2008, only this time it’s gender instead of race. Otherwise sensible people think it would be nice to vote for a woman, and not nice to vote against her. That’s good for an extra 5% going in. Trump just has to pound away at the “yes, but not this woman” message.
They could go Trump but they want to hear more.
The convention and the debates will give Trump the chance to seal the deal with the American people.
That said, the election is Hillary’s to lose.
Anytime they do not give the internals of a poll it is garbage. This poll is garbage. If it was an accurate poll they would be delighted to show all the internals. This poll is a lie.
A lot of people are probably afraid that if they confess support for Trump they’ll wind up in one of Hillary’s gulags someday.
No there is nothing she has done to become more popular. Maybe this is fallout from the media declaring that Trump has had a bad two weeks?
Yup - I’ve said often on here Cankles will be our next Prez and the other reason for that is people want to make history by making a woman our first Prez.
Very tough to beat that kind of thing. It worked well enough for Obama.
That’s why Trump to going to have to work very hard to overcome it. We’ll have four months to find out and as you know, I like to play it safe.
electioneering 101
“find a trend in your favor no matter how far back in time or how much nuance needed.”
ie disco music is trending up.
ie from the date of its founding there are more democrats today than there were in 18XX.
I agree, if they weren’t afraid of what the poll really looked like, Trump is probably ahead of Clinton, then they would show everything...
Seems to me the pollsters are trying to show that the Economy Issue is not very important. They are dead wrong for many reasons. As said earlier, people are not going to say they are for Trump to avoid paybacks from Obama & Hillary
I think people feel that a R congress and a D Pres is better somehow than just one party... I dont think it works like that.. but i get the sense thats what they feel
Trump is giving a policy speech tomorrow in Monessen, PA, and having a rally in St. Clairsville, OH tomorrow night. It will be interesting to see what his speech is about, he has to keep hammering Clinton on her dishonesty, corruption and total failure as a senator and SofS
you and I know that... but I think the public at large doesnt...
If Hillary wins it will prove to me that our votes don’t count. I’ve doubted if they count for years but this would prove it in my mind.
Obama could have done it with fraud. But Hillary is so hated by the masses that there’s no way she can “win”. So, the power that puts her in also puts out bogus polls so we’ll believe it was close and with only a few more votes she would have lost.
She won only because too many republicans stayed home. And that’s another explanation that we have no idea is true or not.
When you’ve been around as long as I have you become pretty damned cynical.
