Has Donald J. Trump become a born-again Christian?
That is the suggestion of James C. Dobson, one of Americas leading evangelicals, who said Mr. Trump had recently come to accept a relationship with Christ and was now a baby Christian.
Dr. Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family and one of the countrys most prominent social conservatives, gave his account at a meeting Mr. Trump had in New York on Tuesday with hundreds of Christian conservatives.
In an interview recorded at the event by a Pennsylvania pastor, the Rev. Michael Anthony, Dr. Dobson said he knew the person who had led Mr. Trump to Christ, though he did not name him.
I dont know when it was, but it has not been long, Dr. Dobson said. I believe he really made a commitment, but hes a baby Christian.
Mr. Anthony posted the interview to his blog on Friday. Dr. Dobson could not be reached on Saturday, and Hope Hicks, the Trump campaign spokeswoman, did not respond Saturday to a request for details.
...
In his interview, Dr. Dobson conceded that Mr. Trump did not exactly fit the typical mold of an evangelical.
He used the word hell four or five times, he said. He doesnt know our language. He added that Mr. Trump refers a lot to religion and not much to faith and belief.
For evangelicals, the heart of Christianity is a faith-based dependence on God. They often contrast this with what they characterize as merely religion, which they view as more rules and rituals-based.

Depends on HOW the word is used.
If it is meant as an intensifier for something good, then it is a misuse (like hell yes, rednecks built America). One could speak of a hell of a mess, though.
However who is the judge of the meaningless? Man, or God? C. S. Lewis fell short here.
James Dobson is not a pastor. His PhD is in child development from USC and began his career as a hospital psychologist. He has a deeply stubborn, judgmental streak that often comes through in his broadcasts.
Sorry, I still haven't gotten over how he sandbagged Fred Thompson in favor of Crazy McQueeg in the last presidential election.
That Falwell has hipster pegged trousers?
I honestly hope you are right, only time will tell!
A little research wouldn't kill you, either. Scores of articles about his good deeds have been linked here on FR since he announced a year ago. Dismount your high horse.
I agree, he could change, rather be changed, and the evidence be yet to come.
But I think you are agreeing, evidence is yet to come.
As it is today, Trump is just not a good fit with “born-again, evangelical Christian.”
>>>However who is the judge of the meaningless? Man, or God?
If we can’t distinguish meaningless nonsense from meaning, then we’re incapable of knowing and loving God.
>>>”Of course Gods miracles are nonsense to you.”
And, of course, I didn’t say that.
The Playboy in the background makes these religious leaders look like goofs. Here they are giving thumbs up and heading back to their congregations.
>>>”That Falwell has hipster pegged trousers?”
LOL!
You showed it; that was sufficient.
I was referring to the others as being godly men, not necessarily pastors as David Jeremiah.
James Dobson is not one of my favorite Christian spokesmen, but I don’t think he deserves the disdain that some here have shown toward him.
I don’t know what you mean by “fit.” I think a sinner and the Savior make a perfect fit.
Jesus said to them, it is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. (Mark 2:17)
Will check it out, Georgiegirl, and get back to you when I can. Thanks for sharing it.
I hope not.
LOL!
Oh, give me a break. Obviously, they were in Trump’s personal space where he has framed copies of his being on the covers of various publications, including Playboy, as mementos of his success. It’s not like the magazine is the only one there or that it’s open with the centerfold being shown.
His Christian guests are not there to endorse Playboy or to tell him to get rid of a magazine cover he wanted to keep, they are there, endorsing the man to lead this country.
If Mr. Trump is or ever becomes a Christian too, the Holy Spirit will convict him and guide him on what is appropriate for a believer and what is not.
Georgiagirl, I had heard this prophetic interview before and I have mixed emotions about it.
I believe that God can and does give prophetic words today, but they are to be in harmony with the revealed Word of God. They are not to be added to the canon of Scripture that we already have in the Bible.
A little background, my theology is Baptist and my experiential walk with the Lord is a little more charismatic... though I don’t believe that everyone should speak in tongues or that everyone will be healed.
So I’m open to God giving specific words and revelation at specific times to certain individuals. However, the thing that bothers me about these “words of prophecy” is that too often they come after the fact.
I don’t want to say I doubt the guy being interviewed, but I would think it would be more persuasive and more indicative of a true prophecy from God, if he had came out and said these things before Trump’s ascendancy as a candidate.
Just the other day, I was at YouTube and saw all kind of “prophecies” from different voices, regarding Trump becoming president.
These things should be proclaimed BEFORE he plows through the primaries, not while or after he is on his way to the nomination. It makes it very hard to believe that God spoke it to them in the first place. And why would the Lord gives such a great prophecy to someone that most of the Church of Christ will never hear of?
Like with the so-called, “prophecies” over Ted Cruz, we need to be very careful with what we consider a word from God. It could very well be our word and not His word. By the way, I still think that the Lord has raised up Donald Trump for this power in our nations history and I didn’t need a prophetic word to see Him doing it.
