Her campaign is based on the premise she’ll narrow the gap between the rich and the poor and understands the plight of the average working class.
“For the factory workers and food servers who stand on their feet all day. For the nurses who work the night shift. For the truckers who drive for hours and the farmers who feed us . For everyone who’s ever been knocked down, but refused to be knocked out,” Mrs. Clinton said during her presidential kick-off speech last year, vowing to fight for the middle class.
But this is a tough needle to thread, considering Mrs. Clinton is part of the top 1 percent of the 1 percent, and got that way profiting off of public service.
When Mrs. Clinton emerged from the hospital after the birth of her grandson this week, all eyes were on her $3,500 Ralph Lauren calfskin purse, being carried by an aide. New mom Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, paid upwards of $1,700 or more per night to stay in the Lenox Hill hospital in Manhattan, the same one where Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their daughter.
The executive birthing suite is more like a five-star hotel, with “flat-screen TVs, lushly upholstered gray and cream sofas adorned with silken throw pillows,” the New York Daily News reported.
A far cry from your average hospital room.
There’s no doubt, Mrs. Clinton’s had trouble connecting with the people she’s trying to reach.
In the latest Quinnipiac poll in the swing states of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, more than half of the respondents said Mrs. Clinton doesn’t “care about the needs and problems of people like you.”
They also judged rival Donald Trump as more “honest and trustworthy.”

One night, my husband who was working with Peter O’Toole, was invited to join him in an all-night drink and eat fest. I agree with the point of the article but why are “flat screen TVs” commonly mentioned as a luxury item?

You either have class and style or you don’t. Neither of the Clinton dames have it. Can’t they go back to Arkansas and leave my great town alone?
"Class" they simply do not have… and it is a commodity that doesn't seem to be purchasable. They have managed to grab lots of lucre, which permits them to buy/lease/rent all the "style" they desire- but they are oddly hopeless when trying to make any of it work.
The Clinton dames are not Arkansas people, so they can't go back. Hillary left the provincialism of the Chicago 'burbs for "better things," and a short stint in her partner-in-crime's birthplace was but a rung on the ladder. Chelsea? She's got Arkansas ties like I have ties to Devonshire (or Kreis Minden-Lübbecke… or the island of Terschelling). No, New York (and its political doppelganger DC) is where they'd rather stay.

You leave out the yokelish Bill Clinton who is Arkansas trash through and through. Chelsea was born and raised in Arkansas until they grifted into the WH.
And I agree: class cannot be purchased. It must be instilled when a person is young. There are people who are locusts and eat the earth and there are people who stand around and watch them do it. The Clintons are the former.

I have relatives that treat the hospital like Club Med and try to end up there at least once a month (seemingly). She's 5'2" and 300+ lbs. and he's 5'11" 400+ pounds and they have all the associated health problems for their fat group.
They're on welfare so they don't pay a dime, but they get: an air-conditioned room with free TV (flat-screen) with remote, a free comfortable and adjustable bed, free cooked meals delivered right to the room, and someone to come anytime they ring the little bell. They don't even have to remember which meds to take when since the nurses do that. Such a deal!
