It’s not unusual to wipe out when riding your bike on a mountain trial, but when a bear causes you to crash, that’s a different story.

According to Davis Souza’s post on Instagram, he was biking near Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountain range June 14 when he crossed the bath of what looks like a black bear.

Terrorist attack? #brownbearsmatter. Lucky for the guy he didn't PO the bear. Guess he missed the memo about the Teddy Bear picnic in the woods that day.

You know those bathing bears really, REALLY hate mountain bikers “splashing” through...

Bears always think they have the right of way.

Looks like the biker was moving at a pretty good clip when the bear ignored the crossing signal.

He’s fortunate that the bear didn’t circle back and attack him, while he was standing there cursing. At least he warned the other cyclists.

Hard to spot it in the shade, I guess. It looks like the bear went airborne from the slow motion replay of the video.

That shouldn’t be possible unless the bear jumped. The mass of the bike+biker compared to that of the bear is too little.

You will sustain damage. I sadly hit a black lab on the way to work one day. She was a youngster with no collar and just sprinted out of a ditch. Maybe 60 lbs. She didn’t make it and the car had a lot of damage on the left front. Since it was 0400 all I could do was move her off the road. Knocking on doors in that neighborhood at that time of the morning, not a good idea.

Well, look at the slow motion replay and tell me if you don’t see the bear’s head passing over him, silhouetted against blue sky.

“The bear ran away after the crash before “..I could ask if it was alright or anything,” according to the Souza.”

Bears cannot change the laws of physics, but they probably could jump if startled

It’s there in the video. I’ll leave the how to the physicists and ursine behavioral psychologists.
