Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.
The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruzs future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.
Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.
The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.
According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.
Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.
There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.
Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruzs unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagans failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

Secret and confidential....yet here’s an article about it. Oh, the intrigue.
I'm an principled conservative just like Jim DeMint. We're all of those things of course... stupid, uninformed and really shouldn't be posting our opinions online as you say. Good luck with that.
What YOU said. Every single word of it! About the only thing i would add is that there are 2 types of gop-e who would want cruz to have a floor fight and see the convention rules changed:
1. the cult followers who actually believe his fake-Christian act, and
2. the GOPe RINOs who have no qualms about feeding his ego so they can use him to defeat Trump.
Those are your NeverTrumpers.
Reagan was truly a great communicator. While Cruz debates the points well, he comes across as an ass.
These are the true conservatives who up to this point Trump is not courting. Hopefully he will at some point soon. You have it exactly ass-backward.
“I’ve never been more disgusted with the beltway GOP. “
No matter how hard you try you can’t have a low enough opinion of them. They can always find a new low.
So principled you're still defending Ted Cruz, the globalist huckster. C'mon, you're no conservative. You're a Neo-Con at best, probably a closet pro-amnesty supporter too. I've run into dozens of Cruzers online who are now openly admitting to being pro-amnesty these days. I suspect they're just stupid and listening to the opinions of their betters like Bill Kristol, or they never really cared to begin with and their whole "principled" thing was just self-deception.
Frig them. The Cruzlamic State is over. The notion he could ever get elected President is beyond imaginable. Decent policy, awful dude.
Make It So, Georgia Girl 2.....
in order to appear more sincereNot gonna happen. It's not from the heart if you have to "appear more sincere"
Cruz is a fraud to the core as it is.
When William Kristol is one of your "betters," it's time to calmly place your affairs in order, take the rubber hose firmly between your teeth, and start sucking down as much car exhaust as humanly possible. ;)
Cruz is not going to get another shot. Trump will get 8 years and the endorse his VP for the next four.

Cruz could have had a shot...
...until he went full establishment.
there is a reason people don’t like politicians or lawyers or salesmen. Cruz reeks of insincerity. He may be “conservative,” but he comes off as a sociopath. The fact that mere weeks before the convention he is plotting running against Trump in 2020, instead of helping Trump now, is despicable.
Cruz is catching fire, surging, and playing twister with the true conservatives.
Ted has his best path to the presidency laid out before him, but his ambition and stubbornness caused him to blow it in the worst possible way. He should have continued campaigning and never started trying to tear Trump down. If he’d kept himself on an even keel he could have been the ideal VP running mate for Trump.
But he blew it bad and might not be able to recover from it among a large block of Republican leaning voters.
Great group of patriotic Americans. I do hope there is a role for Cruz in the conservative movement and that he will run for president in 2020.
LOL
This traitorous cabal will never get Rafael elected — but they might give Hillary two terms
His “damage” continues with his sworn oath to support Trump. Furthermore his vote for TPP is also irrevocable as are his lies about Trump and the unethical stunts he pulled in Iowa. This asshole is not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination.
