What about the flying cockroaches? Didn’t they make your list?
A British couple had a run in with a gator at the same lagoon a few weeks ago. They said they told someone. Also the news said that Disney tries to monitor for gators.
So Disney does know gators are possibility. News said signs are posted not to swim, but no signs warning about gators.
I agree.
Exactly what I was thinking, if alligators had the opportunity they would eat more humans, the only reason they don’t is lack of opportunity.
But they are wild animals. During droughts or times when their food supply may otherwise diminish, they will go after anything they believe is, not to be insensitive, a meal.
I am not defending Disney or accusing them, but they'll probably be held liable for this either way, at least civilly, and will end up making changes to alter their policies.
That being said, it is almost impossible to prevent wandering, foraging alligators from slipping unseen in and out of the lakes in Florida, including Disney World.
This hurts. We raised our kids in Florida and this was a constant unthinkable nightmare for us. Even when we moved and took them tubing for the first time they questioned us for an hour checking about gators out here. Just horrible...prayers for the family.
Heat, Humidity, Mosquitos, Chiggers, Too Much Rain, Leaches...........
I guess it's hard to react properly in that situation but their best chance was probably to jump on the animal and pull it out of the water by the tail - getting in a tug of war with it is a losing proposition...
At the very least they were bad parents and not watching their kid close enough. They will pay for that the rest of their lives.

Awful. At least they can bury their son instead of an empty casket and knowing that he became gator poop. I cannot imagine the horror at losing a tug-of-war with a predator for my own son who wasn’t even old enough to go to kindergarten, while my wife and his older sister watched.
According to at least one news site where a Disney staff commented anonymously, there were problems with idiot tourists feeding the gators, which doesn’t surprise me one bit and probably contributed to this. Only signs up around the area said “no swimming” which while people kind of should know this beforehand, it does NOT automatically mean “here be gators”.
One comment from Disney is that trying to keep gators from entering the property is ‘futile’...bullshit...if we could get the PETA idiots out of the way and let them SHOOT marauding gators. But the most they can do is put up signs and (hopefully after this) guard fences.
I say let PETA go in the lagoons and talk nice to the gators.
Seriously, my prayers go out to the lad's family. May he RIP.

Amen to that.
In all seriousness, what makes a tragedy like this even worse is that the family has to deal with the reality that not only did that precious little boy drown, he drowned after the horror of being attacked by that damn alligator and dragged underwater, being devoured by any predator is a godawful way to go.
Rest In Peace indeed.
(sometimes we engage in the somewhat macabre attempts at humor because it’s the only way to face things like this).
