Tulsi Gabbard launches petition to end Democratic Party superdelegate process

The Democratic presidential primary process may be ending next Tuesday, but the fight among Bernie Sanders supporters to rid the party of superdelegates and install new leadership at the Democratic National Committee is not.

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard encouraged her followers on Saturday to sign a petition ending the Democratic Party’s use of superdelegates.

“Whether you are a Bernie Sanders supporter or a Hillary Clinton supporter, we should all agree that unelected party officials and lobbyists should not have a say in who the presidential nominee of our party is,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “That should be left up to the voters.”

Gabbard resigned as a vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee in February to publicly endorse the Vermont senator’s campaign.

Started from the start.

It used to be only delegates.

This popular vote stuff came later.

the Democrats use this system....in 1972, grass roots hard leftist rose up an made George McGovern the nominee against Richard Nixon. McGovern was very anti war, and the loons just loved him. Anyway, in the election, Nixon just destroyed him, winning 49 states, and after that, the party bosses swore it would never happen again...and came up with the “super delegate” scheme, and as you saw this year, it served its purpose...Sanders lost.

“and came up with the “super delegate” scheme, and as you saw this year, it served its purpose...Sanders lost.”

The old commie bastard lost the popular vote, the pledged delegates, as well as the super delegates. Sanders lost in all 3 demonrat categories.

Bumper stickers in MA the only state to go for McGovern read Mass. The One And Only, and Nixon 49 America 1

Democrats don’t like when people call the party Democrat not Democratic but some say that party is anything but (d)Democratic
It was fun in early states etc when Clinton won more delegates than expected due to superdelegates and we pointed out that
giving things to those who haven’t earned them is a great example of socialism

“It used to be only delegates. This popular vote stuff came later.”

If we had a multi-party type of system, with coalition government like in many places in Europe, then maybe it would be less important to have each individual candidate selected by the popular vote. In our essentially two-party system, however, it disenfranchises the voters to have their only choices on the ballot two people who were chosen by unelected party officials.

Yes...but Sanders performed better in states that traditionally aren’t won by republicans.

How does Hillary winning Alabama,Texas or Tennessee in the primaries equal Sanders winning in Michigan, Wahington or Minnesota?

True, but this creates dissension in the ranks. If Tulsa Garbage wants to help that, more power to her.

Not much difference between Sanders & Hellry.

It’s comparing a Karl Marx acolyte to a Saul Alinsky follower.

Exactly! I try to always use Democrat when referring to the party. They are certainly not democratic in any way.

People in the Republican party are called Republicans.

People in the Democratic party are not called Democratics. Why?

Yes he did and I thought this was a representative republic as with the general election the electoral college chosen by a larger body represents the states.

How quickly folks cast aside a representative republic and wish to shift to a pure democracy
