One million sign petition to oust judge in Brock Turner case. Will it matter?
CNN ^ | June 10, 2016 | Eliott C. McLaughlin

(CNN) — The number appears resounding: More than one million people want Judge Aaron Persky to lose his job for what's been widely viewed as a lenient sentence in the Brock Turner rape case.

So, more people than who live in San Francisco want to see Persky tossed out for handing a white, well-to-do former Stanford University athlete a six-month sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

But will this yield any real action, or is this just another example of "slacktivism" or "clicktivism," arguably meaningless acts of supporting social causes without investing any real effort in effecting change?

No. They can just say truthfully that they can't in good conscience follow the instructions of someone they have so little respect for.

I know so-called conservatives, who are actually scumbags, that get out of jury duty by specifically mentioning how Republican and conservative and respectful of police officers they are. They make the claim that they will always believe the police and that if someone is up for prosecution it's probably because he's guilty.

Yep, probably some jail time for the “refusniks”.

>That poor victim told the probation officer that she didn’t want to see him rot in jail. The judge took that into consideration

Actually she told the probation officer that while she didn't want him to rot, but as little as a year would be a slap on the wrist.

The PO (who seems to be getting a free ride) told the court the victim was good with 6 months, out in 90 days

Wasn’t rape, at one time, a capital offense?

If the victim's Daddy (or Mommy for a really unlucky perp) knew who the perp was.....

That’s not at all what has happened. Liberal and conservative press united on this one.

Did a search to see what folks on FR are thinking about the Persky recall and saw this post from two years ago. Interestingly, what you predicted is the opposite of what came to pass — the liberal press is in fact leading the charge against Persky. Recall vote is Tuesday. I live in California but not in Santa Clara County and so much watch the results from the sidelines...
