In response to falling sales of diet soda, last year PepsiCo changed the sweetener in its main calorie-free beverage, Diet Pepsi. Noting the health concerns that some customers have about the original sweetener in Diet Pepsi, aspartame, the company switched to a different sweetener last year to try to reverse a sales decline. Now sales are declining even faster.
Customers had time to adjust to the idea of Diet Pepsi without aspartame, since rumors about sweetener tests have appeared in these very pages since 2012.
The version of the beverage sweetened with a blend of sucralose (Splenda) and acesulfame potassium (branded as Ace K) started to appear on shelves last summer, just in time for peak cold-beverage season, and the company admitted that some fans of the beverage were not happy with the new formula. Specifically, they received about 3,000 complaints from customers, and only about 300 compliments for the new formula.
The Wall Street Journal reports that some local Pepsi bottlers have received notice that changes will be coming to the brands diet sodas soon. Pepsi declined to comment on the matter.

I can’t find the green cap coke sweetened with “real cane sugar” and stevia any more. Aka “Mexican coke”.
They should try carbonating it. Out of a fountain it is OK but it is flat out of a can.
A baby seal walks into a bar and sits down. “What can I get you?” asked the bartender. “Anything but a Canadian Club” replied the seal.
Modern standards applying to foodstuffs are so good that we actually have the luxury of worrying about this.
The proverbial caveman couldn’t care less.
I like stevia.
I don’t drink many sodas but when I do it’s Coke Zero. It just tastes good. Diet Pepsi tastes like crap. Pepsi too. Lol
No, mom, I’m not on drugs, I’m ok. I was just thinking, you know? Why don’t you get me a Pepsi?
Speaking of Pepsi, will they go back to the old logo after obama leaves the White House?
I drink 3 forms of water:
Coffee, iced tea, and water “neat”.
I quit diet soda a couple of years ago.
That’s what we do. Water or ice tea. Hardly ever drink soda.
Dehydrate?
:)
The new sweetener is fine but they made it even sweeter. It’s too much. Tone it down a bit and I’d like it.
Fresh brewed iced tea for me.
Well sure, because alcohol is a nutrient, right ?
Ditto that. The only sodas I will drink are hecho en Mexico with real sugar. Once you taste the difference, you will never want to drink anything with corn syrup again.
Just drank a Splenda diet Coke...I thought it was pretty good but sort of like Diet Pepsi with more carbonation. (sweeter than regular Diet Coke)
I probably drink 2 sodas a year. Coffee in the first hour of the day and water for the rest - as a quencher/hydrator vs. a "cleanser".
Vernors Diet Ginger Ale here. Maybe 3-4 cans /week.
Not easy to find though.
