That's what I remember him for.
Misplaced hero worship.

Say whatever about Clay/Ali, love him or hate him, but there is no way ever that I would believe that his IQ was 78.

So who were those little faggots?" Muhammad Ali, after meeting The Beatles
He said “I’m the Greatest, not The Smartest.”
Never heard of Mr. Prelutsky before, but his article was very informative. I’m now a fan! Thanks for posting.

“Say whatever about Clay/Ali, love him or hate him, but there is no way ever that I would believe that his IQ was 78.”
Apparently, the 78 IQ score was from when he was given an IQ test by the US Army.
I think he botched the test on purpose.
That, it itself, was stupid.
Deliberately flunking an IQ test to dodge the service is beyond belief.

I know what you mean. I think that was a gift.

Trivia: Sugar Ray Robinson guest starred in Mission Impossible, Season 3, Episode 2. Ali showed up in an episode of Diff'rent Strokes. Both were positive characters.

Thanks for posting. Burt Prelutsky is one of my long time favorites.
High praise, indeed.
Oh man, that ain't true. Pro boxers have been talking trash about each other publicly for 300 years at least. Nor, if you read American political history, did Trump introduce it to politics. We've just come off a rather gentlemanly period of 75 years or so in both pursuits. Alas, no more.
Even after Ali was tested and found to possess an IQ of 78, (below 70 is deemed feeble-minded), he boasted I said I was the Greatest, not the Smartest.
He was in many ways a narcissist, but not as much as, say, 0bama. For instance, I knew people who knew him, and he actually gave to many charities and didn't make a big deal about it. And the line above indicates a certain healthy self-detachment. But I agree with Burt; I hated his incessant trash talk.
