The US Navy has started to receive its first power pulse modules, in container form, to power its experimental particle railgun, the Raytheon Company said in a press release on Monday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) Raytheon's pulse power container design was developed for a $10 million contract with Naval Sea Systems Command to develop a pulsed power system, which will enable land or sea-based projectiles to reach great distances without the use of an explosive charge or rocket motor, the release added.

Shades of 1996 in Eraser. This is fascinating technology. I want one (or two). It only took twenty years to go from the big screen to the big theater.

Why is it the we now advertise to the world what would before be secret plans or weapons?
To sow Fear Uncertainty and Doubt with your adversaries.
Sun Tzu 101
This reminds me of the Scramjet engine development. “Any day now it will be delivered to our military”, they have been saying this since the early 60s. Some are available, but not in the numbers, cost, or performance long touted.
If Hillary gets in the Chicoms will have the blueprints within the week, or maybe Obola gave them to China already.
I think I read that they can punch out shells 124 mi ... that is a huge advantage in distance.
No, those were particle/energy weapons.
This actually fires something solid.
Hot Science Shot
I have wondered about that too.
I've seen many US Army, Air Force, Navy, etc. websites about military programs or research that should be in my opinion be secret, spewing all sorts of facts that should not be revealed. There are US Army websites I've seen of military intelligence units giving the names and showing pictures of all the personnel in these units. Photos and names of the commanders down to the enlisted personnel. It's a totally ridiculous lack of common sense security.
Kind of like an magnetic crossbow on a large I think.
Sowing Fear Uncertainty and Doubt is done by secrecy and rumors, as the Manhattan Project did, not by advertising your wares so that other countries have greater warrant and impetus to prioritize using more resources to negating new tech.
“The US can have all of the weapon systems imaginable but they are worthless as deterrents if potential enemies know that American leadership does not have the will to engage.”
Exactly right. You aren’t really armed if you are carrying a gun but refuse to use it when needed.
