My 23 year old son had it a couple of months ago. He started taking l-lysine as soon as he felt symptoms. Consequently, he had a very mild case. I don’t know if it will help if your son starts it now. It’s worth a try. We take it for cold sores. Works great.

He seems to be feeling a bit better today (well enough to spend the day on the deck at his girlfriend’s place lol). His fever broke in the night and he’s had some good eats today. He’s lost 7 pounds in 5 days. The spots were very nasty - they’re still there, but starting to dry up and scab over. Why his girlfriend wanted to spend the day with him I’ll never know - he’s quite, ummmmm, well, ah, not so handsome with his face covered with ulcers. Poor guy.
