Yep, 1970’s all over again. E-3’s were filling E-7 crew chief slots because cashiers at the local supermarket were making more. I was in Jimmy Carter's Air Force.

Me too. One of the hardest jobs I ever had was trying to explain to a 3 star (who retired with 4)why he couldn’t just hire TSgts off the street.

I was in Jimmy Carter's Air Force. I was also in during Carter. Quite a few horror stories regarding lack of funds and thus maintenance, and that on ICBMs carrying 9Mt warheads. Not to mention some of the really bad crap we had to put up with on base when we weren't on Alert.
