The Justice Department fired back at the Texas judge who ordered its attorneys to undertake ethics classes after finding they misled the court in a high-profile challenge to President Obamas deportation amnesty saying the order was beyond the judges authority and would cost millions to implement.
In a motion filed Tuesday asking for a stay of the order, in which U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen said DOJ attorneys were intentionally deceptive, government attorneys outlined their objections to both the training requirements and his requirement that by June 10 the Department of Homeland Security turn over identifying information for 50,000 immigrants who entered the United States illegally and are now participants in a government program that shields them from deportation.
The sanctions ordered by the Court far exceed the bounds of appropriate remedies for what this Court concluded were intentional misrepresentations, a conclusion that was reached without proper procedural protections and that lacks sufficient evidentiary support, DOJ attorneys wrote their motion for the stay.

“The DOJ estimates the costs to send more than 3,000 attorneys to ethics classes could total between $5 million to $8 million over five years.”
NOw here’s the real problem. the DOJ “has more than 3,000 attorneys!” Time for a serious RIF!
and revoke their law licenses. DC corruption is in dire need of legal consequence and a judge's scolding won't cut it.
falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus - once a liar, always a liar. The attorneys took a gamble and lost, and their careers in law should be in jeopardy. And that qualifies them for the Mexifornia judiciary. So don’t feel bad for them.
I’d rather it be for perjury/like...and as high as the rabbit hole will take ‘em!
Why is the justice department reimbursing these crooks for their ethics classes? This should be paid by the offending lawyers, not the taxpayers.
These sanctions were in lieu of jail time, which is what they should have received.
Disbar yes
Jail yes
But more important to deter would be losing pensions and any/all financial security.
ethics is being POLITE
its called obstruction and its criminal....
with this administration there are no rules or law or JUSTICE
it is a dictated mockery of JUSTICE
an attempt to shred the law and the CONSTITUTION
by third rate political hacks
they hate America and all it stands for
I think it is actually far more simple: the DOJ and Homeland have approved more applications, and in making the response to the judges order, they would actually have to admit that once again they lied to the court.
So now they squabble over the judges order, in hopes that this instead becomes the focus.
And if they can get this judge to overstep his bounds in the enforcement, then they can get a different judge to dismiss the order which might otherwise result in a contempt finding.
The judge tried to let them off easy.
What he should have done, and should now do: File a complaint with their respective bars.
It’s a permanent black mark on their records, and they can kiss that cushy partnership goodbye. If it is one of multiple complaints, it may initiate disbarment proceedings.
I agree. If it truly was a conspiracy of a group in the DOJ it should involve disbarment in my view.

The judge was an idiot. ‘Misleading’ the court is another way of saying perjury and the US Attorneys should have been prosecuted accordingly.
Of course, the law doesn’t apply to the servants of the Lords of the Beltway.
Good idea !
