SACRAMENTO The latest round of gun-control bills speeding through the Legislature should offer a reality check to those of us who own firearms: Democratic leaders will never be satisfied closing the latest round of loopholes. Every year they push new rounds of reasonable and common sense gun laws, few of which seem reasonable given they target law-abiding owners. To many legislators, the Second Amendment is the real loophole.
Most Register Opinion readers already know this, of course, but they might not understand some other dismal realities: Law enforcement is generally not on our side on this. For instance, Assemblyman Jim Cooper, the Elk Grove Democrat the Sacramento Bee refers to as law enforcements man at the Capitol, is the author of several of the latest Assembly bills. Some sheriffs have opposed Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsoms anti-gun initiative likely headed to the November ballot, but others are actively championing new restrictions.
Furthermore, California Republicans have been complicit in the current mess. Sure, the vast majority of them oppose new gun restrictions and give thunderous pro-Second Amendment speeches in the state Capitol. Yet Republicans deserve a large portion of blame for creating what Ive long referred to as the states infrastructure for confiscation given their support for the Armed Prohibited Persons System.

It’s never ending.
One of their latest Laws is turning the “CA Legal” AR-15 into an Assault Weapon. It’s like Magic. One day my AR-15 is sitting in my Gun Safe minding its own business and next day its owner (me) is a wannabe Felon if he doesn’t Register it.
They are the ones that came up with the CA Legal AR-15 design requirements in the first place. They thought they were slick requiring a “tool” to remove the Magazine. Somebody invented a tool, a bullet button, and that was that.
It takes five seconds to switch Magazine’s with a little practice using the Bullet Button. I just love Human ingenuity.
Well, that didn’t sit well with the Liberal Political Elite, so they had to act. Now they want a fixed Magazine that cannot be removed and are blaming the San Bernardino Jihadist Murders for the need to change the Law.
Oh yeah, I heard they also want to do Background Checks on anyone who purchases Ammunition. Now when I go to Vegas to play Poker, I’ll be buying my Ammunition there as well. Nevada can get the Sales Tax Revenue.
Whatever they come up doesn’t matter to me. I will not comply. I guess I’ll become an overnight Felon, so be it.
When they first came up with a Law requiring Registration of Assault Weapons years ago, I complied and Registered my AK-47.
It bugged me so much being on the “Assault Weapon Registry” that I decided to sell the Gun to an out of State Buyer.
When the CA Legal AR was available, I bought one and here we are. These people will never stop. Give an inch, they take a thousand Miles.
This is exactly what will happen on a Nationwide Basis if a Democrat wins the Presidency, no doubt in my mind.
The Weenie Attacks never end.
We hear ad nauseum how FR is based there (how does that factor in? Similar to bleating about Rush using Apple stuff) and how they are determined to turn things around.
I laugh yet again. They bleat how things will change, but the avalanche continues downhill. Arnold was the last gasp, and it turned out to be flatulence.
Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
Nor will I.
I've jumped through a lot of hoops the last fifteen or so years in Kalifornia. As of this moment I am completely, 100% in conformance with Kalifornia laws.
But I WILL NOT register a firearm I already own. I will not surrender normal capacity magazines. I will not submit to an infringement of any kind in order to purchase ammunition.
I intend to write a letter to this effect to Governor Brown if any of these infringements reach his desk. If the Ninth Circuit doesn't hurry up and do its job properly, then Kalifornia will need to build a lot more prisons.
Yep, if it wasn’t for the Weather, this place would be the Northernmost Mexican State. I know, it’s pretty much that now.
I live in South Orange County, so I am surrounded by fairly sane people which gives me some Immunity. At least for now.
I can’t leave for various reasons. I do hope to live in a Free State someday, but I’m not sure when that day will come.
Now that they Register Long Guns, I will not be buying any additional Firearms while living in CA.
The only Gun that I own that is Registered is my little 9MM. It is the last Gun I purchased.
My CA Arsenal is far from complete, but my Brother who lives out of State is Caretaker of my other Weapons. When I finally move out of State, I will be holding a Reunion. LOL
Before I bailed out, I lived in Ventura county, which should have been safe. But of course, the state laws trample over everything, so your local political flavor means squat.
About the only California counties that might be reasonable are those rural ones that the sheriffs have decided citizens do indeed have the right to be armed. It might come down to that.
Move to Pennsylvania. Land of liquor, tattoos, churches and guns. Cost of living is insanely low. You can grow food here right out of the ground — and there’s fuel in it too!
Gun laws are only aimed at honest citizens. Does anyone think that a street hood would be “OMG, another law, better get rid of this gun”...
My local firearms range in San Mateo County, Calif has just closed to public shooting. Coyote Point range is now for use by our local PD/sheriff only.
In the last year that’s three major local public ranges closed; San Francisco at Lake Merced, Chabot Gun Club in the East Bay, and now Coyote Point to the south of San Francisco.
Uh...OK. I guess I'll buy that. If you say so.
One solution is to break up California into several New States: a highly populated coastal leftist state, a northern more rural state and an inland rural state.
$100 for an AR lower is not bad insurance in CA right now.
It is a lot harder for them to take away a gun that you already have, than it is for them to prevent you from getting a gun you don’t have.
I can always build it up later.
If they say turn ‘em in, that’s what they get, just a lower.
Oh, and I do happen to own a 3-D printer. They gunna take that too?
The founder of the first gun control organization (HANDGUN CONTROL INC, now the Brady Center) speaks his mind...in 1976.
Nelson T. Pete Shields
Founder of Handgun Control, Inc.
Im convinced that we have to have federal legislation to build on. Were going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily given the political realities going to be very modest.
Of course, its true that politicians will then go home and say, This is a great law. The problem is solved. And its also true that such statements will tend to defuse the gun-control issue for a time.
So then well have to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen that law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, wed be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal TOTAL CONTROL of handguns in the United States is going to take time.
My estimate is from seven to ten years. The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country. The second problem is to get them all registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors TOTALLY ILLEGAL.

Yes, Im for an outright ban [on handguns].
-Pete Shields, Chairman emeritus, Handgun Control, Inc., 60 Minutes interview
HCI, around 1984, came out in favor of a ban on semi-auto rifles and shotguns.
SO, when a gun controller says they ONLY WANT TO REGISTER and CONTROL GUNS, NOT BAN THEM, rest assured they really want to BAN THEM ALL.
Gun grabbers are always quoting cops who say that they need stronger gun laws.
If they were literate enough to do a little reading, they would learn that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were carefully constructed to prevent the government and in particular the law enforcement entities from abusing the people’s God given rights
So quoting some cop as a reason to pass another abusive law exposes either ignorance or a willful disregard for our Constitution and all it stands for, as the Second Amendment is not the only part of it that is in jeopardy.
I’ve heard that Newsom’s proposed initiative dropped its prohibition on the US Post Office delivering mail - the part prohibiting out of state ammunition purchases. Does anyone have real information on this?
I was making offers in two states before letting myself compromise into remaining in CA.
Saved a 30+ year relationship but left me wondering why I'd retired.
You’ll buy what?
Are you insinuating that I am a Liar?
The only bright spot is that I made a $700 Profit on the Gun.
Just joking. I see a lot of boating accident reports and wondered if it was the same deal.
Wow, $700 profit. That’s better than Obama was getting in the fast and furious deal.
