But as for the historical reality, a land invasion of Japan would have been as or more destructive to that country. And had, Truman elected to go with an invasion of Japan, there is a good chance I would have never been born.
In the end, the US and Japan are strong allies and Japan quickly adapted to become essentially a western democracy.
Thus, the question is not whether we apologize if not, the reality is that Japan is an American partner and no longer has expansionist desires.
Had Japan not become a liberal democratic state, the Asian Pacific region, with Japan, Korea, N Korea and China would make the Middle East look like Luxembourg.
Certainly we didn’t have to worry about the Japs talking about being “Stabbed in the Back”, like the Germans did after WWI, which ultimately led to Hitler taking power.

That is so true. I have always wondered what strength it took to make the decision to drop the bombs.
It was war...it needed to end. I find it sad that history is not being taught any longer.
The decision was for President Truman, and President Truman alone to make. History records that Truman remained President until Jan. of 1953. He had great support then for his decision.
I, for one, resent the trend at revisionist history that continues to plaque our nation.
Folks, there was a Civil War, and some of our fine citizens still want to sing Dixie and fly the confederate flag. Those facts are huge in our DNA
