Barack Obama on Friday paid tribute to the "silent cry" of the 140,000 people killed by the world's first atomic bomb attack and sought to renew attention in his unfulfilled vision of a world without nuclear weapons, as he became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima.
"Death fell from the sky and the world was changed," Obama said, after laying a wreath, closing his eyes and briefly bowing his head before an arched monument in Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park that honors those killed on Aug. 6, 1945, when U.S. forces dropped the bomb that ushered in the nuclear age. The bombing, Obama said, "demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself."

I look at atomic bombs not for their immediate effect, but for their long-lasting effect. They not only convinced the Japanese to stop fighting before countless more lives were lost, but they stopped the trend of wars becoming more and more deadly. Well, they at least arrested it for a while. Bill Clinton and Obama have been working to reverse that pause by giving North Korea and Iran, respectively, the means to develop nuclear bombs.
I honestly do not know why extreme leftist politicians get so many kudos for promoting peace, when they work so hard to make the world more dangerous and violent--not to mention their unfocused and nearly constant use of the military for ill-defined goals.

That happened at Pearl Harbor, 12/7/41. It awoke the ‘sleeping giant’.
Saw TV Thursday from coverage in Japan. Indicated that museums in Tokyo and Nagasaki or Hiroshima had displays that blamed Americans for murdering their people. Totally, ignored all of the Koreans, Chinese and others that the Japanese military raped and murdered in their fanatic attempt to exert their rule on other people.
I guess they conveniently forgot how the US put MacArthur in charge of rebuilding their society and spent tons of money to help them to become a powerful capitalist country (until their recent economic descent).
