Theres a lot of ruin in a country, but more in some than others. Venezuela was a much weaker operation than Brazil - much less diverse economy, screwed up by many decades of oil dependence pre-Chavez - the recent government, believe it or not, is only partly responsible for the mess.
The US is likely to be a richer Brazil - much much richer, though the ethnic configuration will make it poorer per capita than it is today. It is however survivable, though there will be an unofficial caste system.
We aren’t looking at a cataclysm, but paralysis.
