How does this match with the alarm log that there was a fire on board?
If the theory is that the pilot set the fire below decks, how was he so sure that it would doom the plane?

I’m still leaning towards the thinking that a bomb was placed. I’m not convinced that it was pilots though. Not saying it wasn’t. Just not convinced it was.
Dropping a flare into the toilet in the operations deck would burn through the controls and render the plane uncontrollable. It would crash. The crew has access to flares.
