The closest analogy I see for it is 'abused spouse syndrome'. I've been seeing this for years and years. Still don't understand it.

I got a notice that Windows 101 WOULD BE installed on my computer on May 21. I hurriedly sought advice on how to stop that and learned about the regedit steps necessary( I am most assuredly not a techie) and performed those actions. No install and the daily nags have apparently ceased. ̣

happened to me Sat, was away from my computer for 2 hours, came back & it was copying files to 10, reverted back to 7 & now it says not authentic, cant stop the auto updates, turn them off, restart the computer and they immediately check for updates.

I’m in for a class action lawsuit!

Me, too! I went to bed a couple of nights ago; and my
computer had decided on its own to install Windows 10.
I had NOT clicked ANYTHING that requested Windows 10.
It ran & fiddled around all that night & finally
finished next morning. Somehow Fang got it fixed. I
could see no way to either stop it or get it to backtrack
or cease & desist.

It didn’t deceive me, it just did it! One day I went in there and it said “ Welcome to Windows 10” aaaccckkk took me a half an hour to get to what I needed initially, now that I’ve found my faves I’m ok. I’m waiting for when I want something new!

Tricking users into upgrading shows just how desperate and what Evil bastards they are. They don’t care. The only thing they care about are the ‘adoption rate’ numbers - something they can bring to the board. Microsoft are bastards; they really suck, but as long as consumers buy their stuff and put up with tricks like this...

My mid-eighties mother, bless her heart, had enough sense to leave that annoying trickware crap alone and thus avoid the pitfall.

And upgrading and then downgrading will leave your system a mess.
