Austrians have headed to the polle to elect a new president in run-of elections. Early results by one polling institute gave far-right candidate Norbert Hofer a marginal lead at almost 51 percent.
Norbert Hofer was projected to become Austria's first far-right president with 50.9 per cent of the votes, according to pollsters of the ARGE Wahlen group say. His lead over Green Party rival Alexander van der Bellen remains too narrow to call a definite winner.
Former Green party chief van der Bellen was projected to gain 49.1 per cent of the ballots. ARGE said they were fairly certain that van der Bellen would not be able to overtake Hofer, who has been serving as a deputy president.

“Far-right”
Oh my. What does make me, then? Ultraviolet right? Maybe even in the soft X-ray region.
Baraq would go have a talk with them...but he never learned out to speak Austrian
Far-right. Anyone who believes in national sovereignty against a Muslim invasion.
One or two generations of righties and then back the other way.
Here it’s keep out the Bushes. There it’s keep out the migrants.
By definition, anyone getting 51% of the vote cannot, by definition, be extreme. Writers who abuse terms like “far right” should be called on it whenever that play that game.
In a strange sort of a way, Austrians have Obama, Hillary and the neocon gang to thank for the "heads up!"
I hope he has enough balls to dissolve Parliament and call for snap elections as soon as possible. That is what the far left communists truly fear.
And according to Obama...the voter guides were written in Austrian......../snicker
Exactly. Far-right is on a spectrum of political opinions of the electorate in question. When a politician gets 51% of the vote, he is the physical incarnation of the exact center of the political bell curve of that electorate.
What these writers are really saying is “far-right in terms of the cocktail parties I attend”.
Careful with that "dissolve" thingy....it might involve a vat of nitric acid (Daily Mail 3 days ago - ISIS execute 25 people by DISSOLVING them in nitric acid)
LOL. Spot on...
> When a politician gets 51% of the vote, he is the physical incarnation of the exact center of the political bell curve of that electorate.
That’s not quite mathematically correct, but your general point holds that getting 51% pretty much forbids a description of “far right” if truth has any value.
Meh. My redundancy was unusually redundant.
Always “far right” with these “journalists”, never “far left”
I thought about my mathematical incorrectness while I was typing. :)
Anything that does not correspond to some sort of Socialism is Far Right. I read the platform that the Austrian and France’s Far Right Parties espouse and all it is is trying to move the pendulum back to some kind of common sense.
The narrative that the press is trying to push is the Far Right is a return to Nazism in some way but it is not. I think a excellent case can be made that Nazism along with Socialism is the Extreme Left not Right.
Europe is on the brink and the Right, Anti-Immigration Parties will rise and are on the rise. The Day of Reckoning there is at hand. There will be war.
Keep in mind that the European definition of “far right” might be in our terms somewhere between Sanders and Clinton.
