The Never Trump moment is over.
While a small group of Republicans has wrung its hands raw over the choice between the GOPs nominee and Hillary Clinton, the partys firmament social and intellectual conservatives, the lobbyist and donor class, powerful operatives and outside groups is increasingly getting in line behind Donald Trump.
Never mind that many of them complain about his bombastic and unpredictable political style. The thawing has slowly but surely begun - and its visible everywhere -- from mega-donors like Foster Friess rallying Republican governors to Trump, to Mitt Romneys allies agreeing to raise money for him, to leaders of the Never Trump movement conceding their cause is lost.
I am slow-walking the Donald Trump candidacy. Its a very deliberative process. You cant beat Hillary Clinton with nothing, and the question is can we fundamentally energize conservatives quickly and can we use our joint desires to unite to find a path forward, said Ken Blackwell, a former ambassador in the George W. Bush White House and key figure in conservative circles who formerly advised an anti-Trump super PAC. Thats very methodically playing out.

Agreed.
But having the right GOPe enemies for the past 10+ months has also helped Trump tremendously.
[Its a pretty simple calculus: Do you want to win or do you want to lose? one operative says.]
The resounding defeat of the GOP Establishment scheme to redefine the 2012 marriage plank at the IL GOP Convention in Peoria this weekend sends a message. The message: Their time is over.
Trump should stay away from ‘elites’. He is already winning in the polls without their faux support.
Those that have not yet supported Trump have waited too long. They’re through in the Republican Party. How nice of them to self-purge and save real Constitutional Republicans the trouble of having to do so to them.
Romney, Ryan, Kristol....now we know what they, among others, are.
Ah yes, the painful subject of those pesky people. The GOPe has been successfully sweeping that painful subject under the rug, and successfully ignoring all those pesky people, since the earliest days of the Tea Party.
The genius of Trump is that he spoke directly to all those pesky people and presented his candidacy in a way that all us pesky people could use to pull the painful subject of our existence out from under the shag carpeting in the GOPe Lobby Room.
And that worthless, lying POS, Ted Cruz.
Yes. Trump’s candor and honesty have exposed the mendacity of the Republican and the Democrat politicians. This is an important part of the Trump Revolution. The greatest evil fundamental to the decadence of Western Civilization is contempt for truth, and Trump has exposed it in all its ugliness and ignominy.
Yepper - a lot to be said for speaking the plain and ugly Truth unapologetically - it seems to resonate among a People who are sick and tired of all the PC crap that is designed to tie our hands.
The GOPe figured out that if they want to stab Trump in the back, they have to get behind him.
