An article about a NY congressman discussing a virtual wall was pulled, but I wanted to post a reminder that the virtual wall, or virtual fence has been tried before. I always thought it was just a diversion by W who had no intention of securing the border. It was abandoned early in the Obama administration after a couple of billion had been wasted.

If I recall correctly, Obama stopped it because they couldn’t distinguish between a wild animal and a human and were getting too many false positives.

Seems to me that it was working, and you simply needed a hand full of people to monitor the images until you could refine the software a little bit.

High tech methods can work as well as a wall in my opinion.

Drones alone with monitoring can be greatly effective, I would think.

It is a simple matter of will.

It not a virtuap one, but invisible fence might keep YOUR dog in. But it won’t keep out dogs who want to come in and attack your dog.

This "Virtual Fence" scam is on George Bush.

It's a gimmick he dreamed up to avoid having to keep his promise to build a real border fence.

So he wasted the money congress provided on high-tech gimmicks that accomplished nothing other than making the contractors a little richer.

And Obama has been only too happy to keep the scam going.

BORDER

o Yes Wall, No fence.

o No electrical, so it cannot be turned off by Democrats.

o All Executives building fences should be imprisoned for treason eg Boeing.

Put up double fence and patrol it 24/7. Make Mexico pay.

I see a market for autonomous armed patrol drones here.

Some politicians will probably start playing the virtual fence game just as they played the “I oppose amnesty” word game for years when they had no intention of enforcing immigration law or deporting illegal aliens.

Those who might start advocating a virtual fence will want no border control, just as in the past.

Question for Anyone:

How do you protect against deep tunnels under the Trump Wall?

A 30 foot high reinforced concrete wall 6 feet thick with a 30 foot deep foundation would take a LONG time to be reduced to tatters.

Bush and his buddies over at the Crony Chamber of Commerce had no intention of ever securing the border. The GOPee party depends on the continuation of cheap unskilled labor, just like the RAT party depends on this demographic for new voters.

I would guess that the Israelis know all about this and we could learn myriads from them.

It was a program that was a detection system, not a fence or wall. It was like an AWACs on the border. Boeing sold it as such. Boeing did not claim a “virtual fence.”
The detection system was to replace the smaller and less capable MSS system.
Apparently I was the only Boeing employee with a son in the Border Patrol. Boeing would trot me out at all the DC parties and such. I would never defend Boeing, didn’t like them at all, but would defend the Border Patrol and the program. The Agents in the field wanted this detection system as it helped give advance warning of where they were coming from (it could look deep into meh-he-co) and the Agents could then ambush them when they crossed the border.
It was the DHS Director Nappypants that cancelled the program. It was actually starting to make a difference and the technology was maturing and she couldn’t let THAT happen.
