Mesquite, TX investigators said according to witnesses, an incident that started with a harmless traffic maneuver, ended with a man being shot and killed in self defense this Sunday.
Officers responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Rodeo Center Drive and Military Parkway about 10:15 p.m. where they discovered the body of Armando Macias Jr., 25, who died from apparent gunshot wounds.
When Macias and two family members witnessed a car turning around in their driveway, they began to yell and curse at the people in the vehicle. The driver of the car, who was unfamiliar with the area and mistakenly pulled into the driveway, backed out and drove off.
At that time, Macias and one other family member entered their own vehicle and pursued the car. The car occupied by Macias pulled in front of the other vehicle, blocking it in at the intersection of Rodeo Center Drive and Military Parkway.
Witnesses said Macias exited the vehicle and approached the passenger side of the other car. He then reached into the car and began to assault the woman in the passenger seat, while attempting to pull her from the car. The driver and backseat passenger pulled at the woman in the front passenger seat, trying to keep her from being pulled from the car.
Macias reached for the seat belt mechanism, in a failed attempt to remove it. The backseat passenger saw Macias reach for something around his waistband, and fearing for his life and the life of the woman in the front passenger seat, the backseat passenger fired two shots from a handgun, with both shots striking Macias.
Police confirm they discovered a screwdriver lying next to Maciass body and investigators see this as a clear case of self-defense, and defense of a third party.
The case is being referred to the Dallas County Grand Jury.
Seemed to be mexican, not texican. And it was his driveway.
Being a damned fool can get you killed anywhere.
Makes sense though it does not entirely preclude an instance of self defense.
You could be carrying illegally and still kill justifiably in self defense.
..You could be carrying illegally and still kill justifiably in self defense.....
That actually does happen sometimes, but followed by an arrest and gun charges.
Carrying a loaded handgun in a car in Texas requires a concealed carry permit.....
Not anymore.

However even with a handgun, in Texas, there are several places where a person may possess a handgun legally without the benefit of a Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL). These places include:
A persons residence or other real property under their control.
A persons private motor vehicle or watercraft if the handgun is concealed, and the person is legal to possess a firearm, is not a member of a street gang, and is not engaged in the commission of a crime greater than a Class C misdemeanor traffic or boating violation.
A person engaged in lawful fishing, hunting, or other sporting activity on the immediate premises where the activity is conducted, or is en route between the premises and the persons residence or motor vehicle, if the firearm is a type commonly used in the activity.
While storing a loaded firearm, it must be in a place which cannot be accessed by a child under the age of 17, or secured with a trigger lock if there is reason to know that a child under 17 may gain access to the firearm.
Good
Um, you should never set foot in Mexico then, seeing as how the perp was a mexicriminal, not a Texan.
Mesquite was the city where a policeman offered to shoot me because I pulled off to the side of the road (so he could give me a speeding ticket) in a manner that he disapproved of.
I had pulled to the shoulder rather than the center divide, for officer safety, as per my training.
His exact words were “That’s a good way to get yourself shot”.
What a rube.
“Mesquite + Garland + Balch Springs + Seagoville + Pleasant Grove = ass end of Dallas County”
Why don’t you send me your address and I’ll ride over and let you Kiss my ass end of Dallas.
“Carrying a loaded handgun in a car in Texas requires a concealed carry permit.”
No it does not.
He went from "I'm going to kill you" to "please don't hurt me" in one second. I actually felt bad for him. I saw later he damaged my truck with his bare fists.
I was embarrassed because all the teachers at my child's daycare saw what happened. I was the talk of the town that week.
I looked at a few Texas gun sites (sorry), and that’s a strangely worded law. (Aren’t they all.)
I sounds like you can carry a concealed handgun, without a CHL, IF you are the owner or operator of the car, but not as a passenger.
The problem with playing badass is that you will eventually meet a badder one.
People use my drive way every day for a turn around.
I don’t care.
ounds like you can carry a concealed handgun, without a CHL, IF you are the owner or operator of the car, but not as a passenger...
Good point.
...Carrying a loaded handgun in a car in Texas requires a concealed carry permit.
No it does not...
You must have blown past post 44 where I was advised of the law change
I bet the poor lady in the front seat hasn’t heard a think since Sunday.
Moral: Don’t bring a screwdriver to a gun fight!
The fact he pursued the car was threat 1, reaching into the car was threat 2. Reasonable fear of bodily harm, that is all that is needed. Two for two, good shooting, goodbye tough guy!
I think that there might be more to the story..who knows?
Ju can’t go turnin’ round in my driveway, man.
This could have been a carjacking attempt by dreamer gang scum.
BTW, I think there was a defensive kill in an Odessa house last weekend.
Resident shot intruder.
Mesquite is super ghetto, not surprised at all an immigrant with poor social skills gets ventilated. good shooting citizen we as a society thank you. I just love a happy ending.
