Target Corp gave a cautious outlook on Wednesday after reporting a lower-than-expected increase in quarterly sales at established stores because of unseasonable weather and weaker demand for electronics and groceries.
Shares of the company fell as much as 11 percent, their biggest intraday decline since December 2008, as investors shrugged off higher-than-expected earnings. The stock was down 7.1 percent at $68.27 in the early afternoon.

Yep, that must be it.
I guess transgendered people don’t shop at Target.

Just to save people from having to look — the entire article never mentions the boycott over their bathroom policy.
I can guarantee the bathroom policy had nothing to do with the sales drop.
These are quarterly earnings. Targets quarter runs Feb-Apr. They didn’t even announce the policy until the end of April.
Any impact won’t show up until the next earnings report.
I don’t even consider shopping there anymore.
Doesn’t need to. The bathroom policy had no impact this quarter. Guaranteed. See the previous post.
I’m sure they do, as do their supporters. BUT, at less than 1% of the population, just how much junk can they be buying? And who in their right minds allows less than a 1% demographic to determine their business models?
Who’s more delusional - Target for blaming it on climate change, or Reuters for believing it?
All of a sudden, people just cut way back on groceries. They’re probably just trying to get a better body for summer.
IOW, next quarter's going to be even worse.
BUT, they announced their opposition to open carry a bit ago. I stopped shopping there then. This whole bathroom BS is just another nail in their coffin that will bear out come next quarters report.
However, their stock price continues to drop.
That’s unexpected. I assumed Target would gain market share among transsexual and pedophile shoppers. Who would have guessed that their losses among decent parents would be larger than those gains?
because their earnings sucked.
I have no doubt that they gained market share among all LBGT shoppers. At 1% of the population, however, that market share ain't near enough to counter the boycotts by people like me, who have been boycotting them since they announced their opposition to open carry / firearms, and now this...
Yeah, good luck with that, Target.
