If you don’t want to lower standards to let students in, don’t have any sports teams.
I think Harvard's Faust was born with XX chromosomes. She seems intent on finishing off any remaining actual education at the school by turning incoming students into pansies.
Of course affirmative action means lower standards. That fact has been known since the pernicious concept started being implemented in the 1960’s.
Dr. Thomas Sowell has written quite a bit on this.
Not only does AA do disservices to the rest of the students, it particularly harms those it is supposed to help.
First off, the drop-out rate for Black students is far greater than other students, simply because the students admitted to top schools due to AA usually aren’t prepared for the more rigorous academic requirements. Were they to go to colleges for which they were prepared, they may well have graduated and lived successful, productive lives.
Secondly, the exceptional Black students who do belong in top schools are tarred with a “not good enough to get in on their own” label.
Mark
By default it does because skin color overrides academic ability and performance.
Why not place blame on the students for not studying hard enough, regardless of race/color?
We all know plenty of kids who dicked away their time in school. Had little to do with the teachers. They pissed away their time. The very same ones who gsve the kids working to get ahead a hard time for being nerds and brainiacs.
Harvard & Yale don’t really have this problem because almost 100% of their minority students are the cream of the crop from around the world. I can tell you from experience that a lot of the Ivy athletes score lower than most all of their Black & Hispanic students.
It’s the second & third tier schools & all the states colleges that get the AA students dumped on top of them.
Do you think Chris Patten consulted Captain Obvious before he released his statement?
If the secondary education system were to blame, then whites and Asians from inner-city schools would also have low scores. Do they? (Hint: No.)
Like the black guy who was arrested several times posing as a doctor in a hospital, might as well make him a doctor thru affirmative action because he wants to be one, credentials and experience need not apply
Yeah, the minority students at schools like Harvard and Princeton generally have the qualifications to enter those schools. It’s the less elite state schools that have to march in lockstep with AA policies.
Minority group members are statistically low IQ, and don’t have the qualifications. The only way to get them in is to fake their qualifications, and that is affirmative action.
No doubt the Ives skate on this, and then get to preach to everyone else about diversity....and they of course, do not suffer from it.
Oh, oh - kiss your job good-bye, Dean.
You should know you’re not allowed to tell the truth.
Of course it does, by its very definition. If Affirmative Action wasn’t in place, the top candidates would get the job/opening/class, etc.
Oh....you mean the people who worked to be the most qualified would get the job.
What an unfair, antiquated idea.
Restore college entrance exams, graded blindly by third party professors who don’t know the race of the prospective students.
End remedial education at four year universities....why are sub-12th grade level students going to a university anyway?
Two simple solutions that would put a stop to most of this nonsense.
Yeah of course, it is by definition.
Admitting students that normally would not qualify, solely due to the color of their skin, it is basically racism.
