Local story of a young mother cooking squirrel for her sons just like grandma (who had recently passed) had the lid, handle and cooked squirrel all hanging from the ceiling. She made the mistake of posting a picture on her FB page.

We always checked our cookbook indexes to make sure Brunswick Stew wasn’t listed under Beef. “You know it’s chicken, right?” One indexer said, “Where I come from, Brunswick Stew is squirrel.” First I had heard that. Live and learn.
Oh boy! Those old pressure cookers could be dangerous. My mother and grandmother had one blow up while canning one year. I wasn’t there but they were so scared neither one of them ever used a pressure cooker again.
