Cruz shuns Trump, GOP unity; says 'challenges' may lie ahead

Ted Cruz on Saturday used his first speech since dropping out of the presidential race not to endorse Donald Trump or urge Republican unity behind him, but to maintain that core conservatives can save America.

Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, countered by deploying a top surrogate who did his best to woo skeptical Texas conservatives. Addressing thousands of cheering delegates at the Texas Republican Convention, many of whom climbed to their feet and waved red-white-and-blue "Thank You Ted!" signs, Cruz repeated some of the same promises from his defunct White House campaign, like abolishing the IRS.

"People ask, 'Are you disappointed?' Of course you're disappointed," Cruz said. But he also insisted he remains optimistic about American conservatism. "That movement is far more important than any one campaign, far more important than one candidate," Cruz said. "We may face some challenges ahead, but I am convinced that movement, the men and women gathered here, will be the remnant, will be the core of the movement pulling this country back from the abyss."

That is a question I ponder on quite often, a Friend of mine has totally changed His personality and it really troubles me. What Happened to them

The rest of us were all campaigning for/voting for a potential president.

They were all slavishly devoting themselves to a messiah.

His debate performances failed to match the hype. Rather than articulating a conservative counterpoint to Trump, he focused on day to day nonsense.>> when i visited all the candidates websites for policy papers on issues i will say trump had his at the time spelled out. you may not believe he will do them or not but he did spell them out and campaigned on them. Cruz and Rubio had resumes of bills they supported. like these would communicate a philosophy or give me some reason to understand them and vote for them. so i backed trump. rather than incoherent lawyers. and i’m not attacking him but he could have laid out the message better. and it is a good message. and he needs to lay it out with unity now.

I think Crazy Cruz may actually believe he is anointed by God to be president and save America.

Well God’s not going to do it by making Cruz President this time. Maybe God’s sparing Cruz? I don’t know.>>>> interesting but Cruz needs an anointing of grace. like my gf says of me. and the next pres will take on all the forces of hell. LGBT, easy money wall street government teat, collapse of Obamacare, ensuing collapse of businesses, no more easy cheap high tech labor, this will be a tough row. Trump has staked out as this is his turf to play on. and it is good for america to now be discussing this turf. how it will play out? i dunno. god bless.

Thats my favorite picture of Ted.
I imagine Ted, hands up, protecting himself from all of those chickens coming home to roost, on his head

Had he been aware of the Ben Sasse slap down when he did this? Just more proof that having intellectual abilities and being conservative doesn't equate to being rational in one's views/actions.

Ted seems to be eschewing reality so he can continue his sour grapes spite snit.

From this article, they claim Sessions spoke to a crowd, “nearly half the size.”

So Texas delegates fly or drive 3-9 hours to Dallas and they can’t be bothered to listen to Senator Sessions address them. While Jeff speaks, some hold signs that say, “Thank you Ted” And the Delegates are there to represent 3 million R voters from Texas.
From the article:

“Cruz — welcomed by supporters waving “Thank you Ted” signs — didn’t even once utter the name of Donald Trump.”

“And he didn’t talk about a need to unite behind Trump to beat Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, which rankled some delegates.”

“I couldn’t believe Cruz didn’t say something about unifying behind the presumptive nominee,” said Pat Carlson, a Fort Worth delegate, Trump supporter and former chairwoman of the Tarrant County Republican Party. “He only gave his campaign speech.”

“But the need to unite behind Trump was mentioned Saturday by a campaign surrogate for the billionaire, U.S. Rep. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.”

““LET’S PUT THIS TOUGH PRIMARY BEHIND US. ... WE CAN AND WILL UNITE.”” Sessions spoke after Cruz, to a crowd about half the size, encouraged Texans to rally behind Trump who has promised to address key issues- the economy and immigration.”

“This is a critical election,” he said, as some delegates raised signs that read “Thank you Ted” and “Go Trump.”

“Let’s put this tough primary behind us,” he said. “We can and will unite.”

Ashley Cruz is an idiot.

His endless lying has revealed that
father Cruz may have helped murdered President Kennedy
before he left for Canada and the Bushes.

Why is Cruz’s father not indicted for working with Oswald
and using Cruz in US politics for his Cuba?

You are now the new GOP establishment. What will you make of it? Will you grow it and how? It will be interesting. You rolled Ryan in impressive time but then so did Obama.

I'm grateful to God for Ted Cruz. I thought his candidacy was a great opportunity. I hope he learned a lot from this election and that he is an even better and more committed conservative warrior in the Senate. I hope God gives us him or someone else like him next time.

IMHO Cruz's two biggest mistakes were:

  1. When Trump rightly said he'd temporarily ban Muslims following a terrorist attack Cruz weakly responded: "that's not my policy"
  2. Cruz should never have apologized to Carson for the aggressive campaigning for votes during the Iowa Caucuses. Carson's actions clearly showed he was an insincere candidate.

I think most Cruz supporters will be voting for the nominee, Donald Trump. But, no complaints and no questions? What country operates like that? This one didn’t used to. Nor did this web site. Scary times.

Bullshat. Name one Presidential Primary where this website didn't require members to adopt support -- or at least no negativity -- towards the presumptive Republican nominee.

Just one.

I'll wait.
