Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, 41, said she needed more staff to help her out

'Overwhelmed' wife of Canadian prime minister cares for her three children

Rival politicians accused Justin Trudeau and his wife of being out of touch

Huge wildfire is tearing through Alberta, forcing 88,000 people to evacuate

Justin Trudeau's wife has come under fire for asking for more staff to help her with the 'overwhelming' job of being First Lady of Canada.

Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, 41, said one aide was not enough to help her juggle her official duties and care for her three children.

Mrs Gregoire-Trudeau's plea for help came as a huge wildfire tore through Alberta, forcing 88,000 people to evacuate their homes - with many of their houses destroyed.

Rival politicians said she was out of touch with the Canadian public and pointed out that the previous First Lady got along fine with a single helper.

Trudeau's wife said she wanted to help as many charities and campaign groups as possible but was struggled to find the time to help everyone.

'I would like to be everywhere but I cannot,' she told Le Soleil.

'I have three children at home, and I have a husband who is prime minister. I need help. I need a team to help me to serve the public.'

They are even more similar than that. Justin Trudeau’s most notable accomplishment before he ran for politics is that of being a drama teacher.

He is qualified because of his last name and that he will do as he is told.

I know almost nothing about Justin and not much more about his father. But I know (or think I know) something about his mother, her having been in the papers a lot here once upon a time.A rather "friendly" sort of gal IIRC! ;-)

But I have heard criticism level against Justin for his handling of those ugly fires in the West.Don't know if it's justified or not.

Although it’s not a big deal to me that he didn’t show up when it was an inferno, though I wish he had so we could have new elections, the bigger deal was not assuring Canadians there would be funds so the area could recover. He gave the distinct impression Albertans were on their own.

Michelle’s staff was last reported at 122
That was before the wigs came along and probably required their own kennel masters

I say if the PM’s wife is expected to travel on state trips as a PR rep for charitable causes, then she needs at least a social secretary, a traveling aide, and a couple of nannies

I can’t believe they only fund 1 aide

Correct. If she can’t handle the duties, then dreamy-eyed Justin should not have run.

She’ll just have to cut back on what she’s taking on outside of the residence, and adjust her “service” to whatever she can do with the staff she has.

I hope Canadians eyes are being opened....doubtful, though. We’re pretty thick in the head up here.

I don't pay much attention to Canadian news but from what my friends tell me at Tim Horton's (I'm not kidding) he hasn't done much other than hugs and photo ops.

Canada runs a little differently than the US. There is no FEMA. Relief efforts are generally a provincial affair. The RCMP is in place but they are the de facto provincial police force anyway. The Army has provided some fire fighters, that's about it.

It seems like relief for the fire victims is basically a private affair. Every national retail outlet I was at today (Walmart, Zehr's, Tim Horton's) has a fund set up at the checkout for Fort McMurray. In all honesty if 35 million Canadians donated $5 each at these retail stores help would land in Fort Mac a lot quicker than if we waited for the federal government. Walmart and Tim's have a vastly more efficient supply chain in place than the federal government does.

Personally I don't think it is the role of the federal government to provide disaster relief like you do in the US. I don't mean to be smug but Canadians don't really turn to the feds in situations like this. Read up on how the local communities in the maritimes handled US bound trans Atlantic passengers on 9/11 when US airspace was closed. Tiny towns like Gander were instantly turned into refugee camps with thousands of people who had to be fed, watered, clothed, and housed. The local people took care of their surprise guests for days with no outside help. Everybody was fine.

Mom’n is tough duty unless they just pawn off the little trophies for someone else to raise / indoctrinate ...... just my opinion !

That's the problem - she wants more pawns to handle the indoctrination of the trophies so she can go around pretending to save the world.

If Sophie’s “overwhelmed” having kids, the beyotch should have kept her damned legs shut and not had them.
If she’s looking for sympathy, she won’t get it from me. My mom raised me, God bless her soul, all by herself.

I'd say if a mom doesn't have times when she's feeling overwhelmed, she's probably not doing it right, so I can certainly find some sympathy.

I'm not sure how much of the charitable work is official duties and how much is stuff she wants to do but only if the people pay for it. (Socialist charity is always funded with other people's money.)

She has my sympathy. I feel overwhelmed at times with three dogs and a husband, and I don’t have to look perfect and meet with the public, the press and dignitaries every day.

Justin’s mom was indeed the “friendly” type.
It was just a rumor that she was friendly with all the Rolling Stones, I’m pretty sure it was just Mick and Kieth.

She also liked to wear short skirts and show off her “commando” look whenever she was out and about without her husband.
That wasn’t rumor or conjecture, there was plenty of photographic evidence back in the day.

IIRC, wasn’t his dad the Canadian equivalent of Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown?
If so it makes it pretty evident why little Justin is as nutty as he is.

Just like we’re stuck with Bambi, they’re stuck with Justina. This is a Canadian issue, so I have no opinion to offer.
