NEW YORK Donald Trump's support has surged and he is now running about even with Democrat Hillary Clinton among likely U.S. voters, a dramatic turnaround since he became the Republican party's presumptive presidential nominee, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday.
The results could signal a close fight between the two likely White House rivals as Americans make up their minds ahead of the Nov. 8 election to succeed Democratic President Barack Obama. As recently as last week, Clinton led Trump by around 13 points in the poll.
In the most recent survey, 41 percent of likely voters supported Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, and 40 percent backed Trump, with 19 percent not decided on either yet, according to the online poll of 1,289 people conducted from Friday to Tuesday. The poll had a credibility interval of about 3 percentage points.
The results reflect a big increase in support for Trump since he knocked out U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Governor John Kasich last week to become the last Republican in the White House race.

I thought everybody hated Trump? Super Duper high negatives etc.

Translation: Trump is Leading Hillary by DOUBLE DIGITS.
Vincente Fox must be sweating now...
This must be true since Facebook assures us that the Times is a reliable news source.
Looks like his “negatives” may have peaked.
Interesting to see these polls?
Anyone else remember, in past elections, the Democrat is usually far ahead in early polls?
Remember Jimmy Carter was so far ahead of President Ford in early 1976 polls? Carter won, but it was one of the closest elections in history.
Remember how Dukakis was far ahead of George HW Bush in early polls in 1988? But then we know Bush won comfortably.
So it seems odd that the Democrat this time around does not have a big lead in polls.
I’ve heard too that some of these polls over the years are fake, that the liberals want you to think the Democrat is more popular than he/she really is.
Anyway, it is stunning that Hillary is in a tight race against Trrump in these polls.
Also, Hillary is well known, she’s been on the political scene for decades. With her high negatives, there’s no upside potential for her to gain additional support. People know who she is and what she stands for. There are not big numbers of voters who will give her a second look. They already know what they think of her. She can only lose support as time goes on.
It’s bigger than NY Slimes thinks. The Trump Democrat factor will be YUGE. I predict a landslide for Trump in November
It’s within the MOE and therefore really is even.
Scott Adams of Dilbert fame says it’ll be 65-35 Trump. I’m beginning to believe him.
However I have yet to meet anyone... anyone... who even remotely wants to vote for Hillary. And my line of work and social circles bring me into contact with a vast swath of varieties of folk.
Hillary Clinton will not be president. Trump will win and it will be a bigger calamity for a presidential candidate than anyone previous including Mondale losing to Reagan in 1984.
If Hillary does win, it will either be because of incomprehensibly massive voter fraud, or else the American people really are that foolish. In which case, they will have deserved everything that would be coming to them.
Jealous much?
There’s that 40% ceiling again...
Just a little sarcasm. I guess it failed.
sorry...misread that.
Someone please help me and convert this to a live link. If you haven’t seen it, it’s an amazing watch.
I suspect her support is concentrated in CA, NY, and IL. If the national poll is close, then she is losing.
In talking to various people over the past few weeks, I find there is a sense out there that most independent-minded people are not thrilled with the choices (Trump or Clinton) but are leaning toward Trump. The “we need to do something different” feeling so many people have in this country is working strongly against Hillary, because she’s been on the political scene for many decades. So people say “why not give it a shot” about Trump.
