The Democrat candidate is often 15-20 points ahead of the Republican in these early "head-to-head" polls. For instance, Mike Dukakis was 17 points ahead of Bush in July of 1988. More famously, Jimmy Carter was 20 points ahead of Ronald Reagan for most of the summer of 1980.

I cannot remember a single general election race in which the Republican candidates was in a virtual tie or even slightly ahead at this point in the race. Almost always, the Republican is "always fighting from behind" all year.

This is a total disaster for Crooked Hillary. And she's about to get spanked tonight in WV by Bernie Sanders.

Worse than that, the press produced laughable polls showing Mondale or Gary Hart beating Reagan in March, of 1984, the year the Gipper won 49 states. After that, we never heard another poll until the day before the election.

Then there was Old Man Bush 20+% ahead of Clinton in ‘92. Early polls don’t mean much, either way.
