I suspect that Trump will come into the convention with between 1400-1500 delegates. Whatever Cruz thinks he is going to do is a pipe dream. Trump will probably pick up another 200 delegates at the convention!

Look for Rubio and Kasich to free up theirs.

No big deal. Probably just biding (not Biden) his time so as to make a gesture at his own chosen time.

“...Cruz...pipe dream...”

Yes. Please go away Cruz.

Trump will absolutely pick up even more delegates at the convention.

Especially since Trump will have knocked down Hillary’s poll numbers significantly by then.

Cruz wants to use his delegates as leverage to add bathroom regulations to the GOP platform.

Cruz reminds me of the little old lady who won’t put her house in a trust so her favorite niece who cares for her can inherit it. The old lady is fearful and doesn’t make smart decisions, now Uncle Sam owns the house.

More goes on at a convention than the nomination itself. Cruz could be negotiating for speaking time, rules changes for future conventions, etc.

Ted Cruz is not releasing his delegates before the GOP convention.

I don't see anything wrong with this. He fought a hard campaign. If it give him a little leverage on issues important to the people that voted for him, that is not a bad thing.

“Whatever Cruz thinks he is going to do is a pipe dream.”

Delegates are real people with real lives and most of them don’t want to be the center of public controversy. Their position, if it’s against the will of the voters in their state, sounds lovely until the reality hits that they have to go home and their votes and names are public information. I doubt that if they think they will be shunned at home for creating a messes in Cleveland they will most likely cave to the will of the people and not to Ted’s visions of grandeur.

Ted Cruz has no say in the matter unless he can change rule 16 at the convention.

RNC convention rule 16(a)(2) says this:

(2) For any manner of binding or allocating delegates under these rules, if a delegate (i) casts a vote for a presidential candidate at the national convention inconsistent with the delegate’s obligation under state law or state party rule, (ii) nominates or demonstrates support under Rule No. 40 for a presidential candidate other than the one to whom the delegate is bound or allocated under state law or state party rule, or (iii) fails in some other way to carry out the delegate’s affirmative duty under state law or state party rule to cast a vote at the national convention for a particular presidential candidate, the delegate shall be deemed to have concurrently resigned as a delegate and the delegate’s improper vote or nomination shall be null and void. Thereafter the secretary of the convention shall record the delegate’s vote or nomination in accordance with the delegate’s obligation under state law or state party rule. This subsection does not apply to delegates who are bound to a candidate who has withdrawn his or her candidacy, suspended or terminated his or her campaign, or publicly released his or her delegates.

This subsection is about enforcing state binding rules. It says at the top that a delegate who does not vote as the state directed them to will be discharged, and their vote will be recorded as the state initially directed.

Then it says that the subsection does not apply to delegates whose candidate suspended their campaign, meaning they will NOT be penalized for unbound voting.

Since Cruz suspended, this rule says that the penalty no longer applies. If the penalty no longer applies, then delegates bound to Cruz are free to vote for any candidate in nomination without penalty.

Cruz, by rule, no longer controls his bound delegates. His delegates cannot be punished for voting for Trump.

Cruz believes he should be king. He will do everything in his power to make that so. He does not believe a word of the platform he has campaigned on and it becomes more obvious every day.

Unfortunately, there are many of his supporters who lack critical thinking skills and will follow him to hell if asked. They believe every word that he has spoken and disregard all evidence to the contrary.

He and they will do their best to burn this country down instead of working to save it.

History is not going to be kind for Ted Cruz. This is why our founders placed that ‘natural born’ US citizen, requirement in our Constitution.

I don’t trust the GOP until the convention is over and Trump is officially the nominee. Lots of rumbling about Cruz running a shadow campaign and still running his amazing ground game - Delegate Theft!! This is why people in these remaining primary states must get out and vote. Lets send Trump to the convention with record breaking votes and majority of delegates. It will also build momentum for the general.
