Facebook suppresses US conservative political news when compiling trending articles on the site, former workers have alleged.
The social network has implied that the trending section that appears along the right hand side of Facebook's website is chosen by crunching data on a story's popularity and timeliness. However, a former contractor who worked on this team has said the stories are often filtered by human news curators, similar to the homepage of a news website.
The ex-journalist revealed that they would regularly exclude US conservative topics for the section even if they were trending on the social network.
"I believe it had a chilling effect on conservative news," the curator, who identified as politically conservative, told tech site Gizmodo.
"Depending on who was on shift, things would be blacklisted or trending," the source said. "Popular conservative topics wouldn't be trending because either the curator didn't recognise the news topic or they had a bias against [it]."
Allegedly suppressed topics relate to known conservative figures such as American news aggregator the Drudge Report, politicians Mitt Romney and Rand Paul.
A Facebook spokesperson said: "There are rigorous guidelines in place for the review team to ensure consistency and neutrality. These guidelines do not permit the suppression of political perspectives. Nor do they permit the prioritization of one viewpoint over another or one news outlet over another."

I’ve finally found a thread where I can comment on the duplicity of that pos Zuckerberg.
What F*ckBook uses is called a algorithm. There are two types of algos-”Open” & “Closed”. And these algos can be tweaked at anytime along with F*ckBooks ties to all national & international security agencies. Suckerberg sold his soul a long time ago.
What could be extremely interesting is if one day in the near future Suckie’s little empire were to fall upon investigation by a newer form of government under The Donald that would expose the censorship of F*ckBook and when did they-”FB” & at what time was the algo tweaked to
promote ALL liberal/progressive agendas & not fair news reporting.
I’d love to see The Donald take down F*ckBook & Amazon.......reminds me of the old Teapot Dome Scandal.
