House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.
Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: .@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.
Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: That is his position, yes.

Hey! They're your guys! You own them. They've been re-elected by tremendous margins all these years. Face it - it's YOUR Party.
Sore Luzerman is getting stale and boring. Change your tagline to Waaaaaa!
How do we the people let Ryan know ‘the wheel has turned and it is time for him to STEP DOWN? Romney sure ought to have some desk job for lying Ryan.
If I believed as you do I might not vote for either candidate since I only have responsibility for my one single vote.
Ted Cruz however has a responsibility as an American Conservative leader to help Trump get elected to stop Hillary from totally discarding the Bill of Rights(First and Second Amendment for certain) through her Executive Decrees and Supreme Court nominees.
If Cruz won’t help Trump then he is allowing the the elites of both the Republican and Democratic Parties together with the European and Third World Socialists to have their way with what will be the former United States of America “One Nation under God”.
It is clear from the statements of those elites and socialists that they hate Trump and will do everything in their power to stop him.
Whose side then will Ted Cruz and supporters be on?
Is the convention before or after the primary?
Waaaaaaa! teacher they didn’t like my candidate. Waaaaaaa!
“We have tried conservatism since 1988.
Long history of failure there...”
I meant to say we have NOT tried conservatism since 1988.
The failure has been the neutered brand of Republican party that has been in effect since that time.
Other than the Republicans fighting Clinton after the 1994 election, conservatism has largely been dead, due to woosies in the Republican party who have never had the backbone to stick with it.
It has been the lack of conservatism, not the use and failure of it that has been the problem.
Ryan and Cruz should have run together. RINO’s on the run. Lyin Ryan and Lyin Ted. Loving amnesty, TPP and big oil. What a team. LOL!
“We’ll have two choices in November and I know who I prefer making those court appointments. Trump’s history doesn’t offer much in the way of conservatism, but the courts is where the future of the country will be decided and I know he’ll be a night vs. day difference to Hillary.”
I couldn’t agree with you more that this is the absolutely most important issue. However, I fear that Trump will not have the inner resolve to fight the Senate if that’s what it takes to get conservative Supreme Court appointments through.
I hope and pray that IF he makes it to the presidency (and that’s a big IF) that this is the one thing he can accomplish. Everything else will be temporary, if he doesn’t get this right.
He could go a long way to alleviating my concerns, if he finally puts together a list of nominees that he has been promising.
How can you tell Ted Cruz and Paul Ryan have been to your house? Theres a shaming letter and a smaller Social Security check in your mailbox. :-)
Maybe Hilary will ask Paul to chair the Dem convention - he might feel more at home over there.....
Yeh it would have been so much better if Trump had been in the Senate voting with Cruz for TPA, and the Corker bill. I’ll bet you would feel a whole lot better about Trump then. LOL!
Courtesy of one GHW Bush and his sons: George,Jeb and Bill (Clinton).
“Whose side then will Ted Cruz and supporters be on?”
I think you have it backwards.
It is Trump’s duty to unify the party, which he has been promising for months. If he continues to drift toward the left, instead of acting like he actually wants the votes of the conservative base, then he will not get alot of them.
If he chooses to spit in the face of conservatives, then he and the country will suffer the consequences as a result of his actions.
The Democrats could hold their convention in October and nobody would have to worry about taking time off work.
Do the 30 percent who voted for Cruz care about the border? Did they support TPA, even though Felito did? Do those 30 percent support Muslim immigration? What do you want, flowers and chocolates?
Regarding your tagline, exactly what Cruz would have done is lose in a landslide. He can't inspire.
diamond6 is asking for it too. I smell ozone.

When you are shaving points on a game, its not what you do but rather what you dont do.
Put Ryan in a Hillary t-shirt. He is trying to shave points on this contest, i.e., he might as well be playing for the other team.
