House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.

Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: “.@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.”

Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: “That is his position, yes.”

Thanks for the point by point. I’m tired of rebutting these mostly old points. Feel free to search the archives to get some counter points.

That 30% that voted for him can demonstrate the ability to put nation ahead of their fragile little egos.

Trump didn’t cheat, unlike Ted tried. He won above-board.

Deal with it and stop acting like frigging babies.

“You people better tell him to stop running toward the Democratic party’s positions and start supporting conservative positions.”

“conservative” positions like amnesty, like the party endorses?

no thanks! Go Trump!

“Do you care that he’s running towards all positions liberal?”

Deportation and a wall are not liberal. Bringing jobs back by cutting corporate taxes and regulations are not liberal. Putting America first is not liberal.

Part of the reason he wanted to be prez is because he was soooo very bored with being a senator. And it was so very below his pay grade.

You got a good point there. I didn't know how dismal he actually was in the senate.

.

Committee assignments:

According to transcripts as reported by Politico, in his first two years in the Senate, Cruz attended 17 of 50 public Armed Services Committee hearings, 3 of 25 Commerce Committee hearings, 4 of the 12 Judiciary Committee hearings, and missed 21 of 135 roll call votes during the first three months of 2015.[113]

you are cherry-picking things out of context.

Realize that the most conservative, most Christian candidate ever ran a very liberal campaign complete with lying to voters and thwarting their will.

Conservatives are not impressed with that kind of lawyer sleaze.

Amen - that guy plus mcconnel helped 0bama get everything he wanted. Don’t let the door knob hit you in the ass on the way out Mr. Ryan.

I actually believe that people like mr ryan think that the world can’t work without him.

When he’s replaced with someone who will fight for our positions he’ll be shocked that he gets reelected and achieves much.

Why oh why did GOPe put squishy congressmen in the speaker’s position?

We have tried conservatism since 1988.

Long history of failure there...

That little puissant thinks he can get in a spitting contest with Trump and win. There’s an epic fail on the way.

The single most important item that doesn't seem to make it onto most lists are the courts. Obama appointees now make up 40% of all federal judges. He managed to accomplish that in just 8 years. Imagine where we'd be with 4 or 8 years of the witch? Never mind the USSC where we're just one vote away from the worst nightmare possible.

We'll have two choices in November and I know who I prefer making those court appointments. Trump's history doesn't offer much in the way of conservatism, but the courts is where the future of the country will be decided and I know he'll be a night vs. day difference to Hillary.
