House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.
Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: .@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.
Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: That is his position, yes.

“He doesn’t need to “unify the party”... he needs to run them out of town. “Unifying” the party is politics-speak for caving in to leftist interests... that’s the last thing America wants or needs at this point.”
So you’re saying he should abandon conservative ideals?
“Deceptive Donnie
Really? You’re coming here with that?”
If the shoe fits.
Oh cut the crap.
Oh, he’s not building the wall anymore?
Not going to deport illegals anymore?
He’s waffling on building up the military now?
Going to let unlimited Muslims in now?
To hell with our vets now?
Embracing Obamacare now?
Glad you told me.
Vote for Killary then. That’s the real choice now, isn’t it?
Ryno wants us to think it’s HIS idea.
Make the call Donald.
Lol. Or vacuum his 757, or carry his golf bags....
Ryan is asking to be zotted.
This is the near-universal position of the Cruz supporters, absolutely demanding on every news outlet and internet forum that the winner woo them the losers kiss their feet and every other bodily area, give them flowers, beg them to join the team.
I say let 'em stew.
I passionately disagree that Trump needs a single one of you.
Trump says, is he for us or against us? ‘Alright, get him outa here!’
No surprise there if he and Romney are put is as “ringers” to replace Trump, assuming Trump does not get the 1237 delegates on the first go-round.
The beauty of it is that Trump has told everyone what his strategy is. He goes for the knockout punch! I'd respect Ryan maybe a little if he looked at the situation he put himself in when he said the Republican Party is inherited. What to do? Step down. Leave the rink in disgrace after a first round knockout. Then figure out how to get another match.
Instead, he's letting Trump decide whether he should step down or not!! Ryan just bowed to the will of the Alpha Male. Ryan's an idiot.
(I've been following through on my thoughts as I typed this. I'm gonna' leave it as is)
...Paul again showing how easily and quickly he caves, rather than working with Trump....
In that case, Donald should ask him to step down as Speaker. He’s on a roll.
The "shoe" is going to be up the Cruzlims' rump.
And about damn time.
There's only one reference I want when the word's “Ryan” and “door” are used in the same sentence. It goes something like this...
”Speaker Ryan, don't let the door hit you in the...”
“Looks like things are falling apart all around Deceptive Donnie.”
Cruz lost! Get over it! Better still, find another place to post your spew! I guess it’s true that lawyers support lawyers, even if they are crooked liars!
Boy...
Who would have thought standing up to these people would actually get results?
I’m glad you have ‘high integrity.’ Generally, that’s for other people to say, don’t you think?
FR is supporting Trump, btw.
Yes......Paul Ryan has caved in to Trump!!! Now....Trump......get rid of this deadbeat turncoat & traitor low life piece of human vermin!!! Or, make him publically apoligize to you and declare for the entire world to witness, that he and every Republican House member in Congress backs you 100% for POTUS!! End of story!!! Nothing less!!! if not fir his butt immediately!!! Show the low life who the boss is!!! The American people are watching Donald!!!
